We are not staying on property and all of our meals are out of pocket. I made sure to make ADR's so we could have the full experience but is 50's Primetime worth paying out of pocket for?

Howdy neighbor!
Yes, yes, yes. Okay, it's my favorite and I've eaten there every trip since MGM opened, but even on the dining plan, many pay oop because the meals are somewhat cheaper than many TS. And the pot roast is to die for. The c hicken is mighty tasty too. And the service is an absolute hoot. Just be sure to eat your veggies or you may end up in the corner.

50s Primetime is one of my all time favorite places to eat. I love the scenery and the food is quite homey and yummy. If we weren't on the dining plan, I still was going to book us to eat there. The kids LOVE the teasing waiters and waitresses. Last time my DH got to be a member of the clean plate club. The desserts are also yummy and the choices are presented in quite an interesting way.

I do recommend checking the menu to make sure there are things you would enjoy eating while there. You can find menus at www.allearsnet.com. However, they aren't always correct...so be aware. I had the pot roast last time we were there and it was soooo good I actually took the recipe off allears and have made it here at home many times.

HTH!

We love 50's Prime Time!:thumbsup2 Last trip we ended up staying 2 extra days so we paid out of pocket for 50's Prime Time. It's one of our favs. The portions are a good size so you could probably split meals. The shakes here are delish and DH and I shared the onion ring appetizer which was lip-smacking good.:goodvibes The ambience here is so cool, I love all the 50's decor and the old tv shows playing. My kids loved it here too and they're 9,8 and 6. Our server was so fun too! He kept yelling at my DH for putting his elbows on the table and when the server turned around, my DH did it again and he yelled across the restaurant 'hey Dad, I saw that! Cut it out'! Everyone was laughing. We'll be back for sure and we'd pay out of pocket again for it too if we had to.:goodvibes

Oh definitely. The pot roast is good, but I prefer their aweseome fried chicken by far. They do seem to be one of the cheaper restaurants and the portions are pretty generous, especially for the chicken--you get half a chicken plus two sides for something like $14. Make sure to eat everything or no dessert, though...

You will love 50's and be pleased with the value for TS at Disney. I got the pot roast which was so good, but DS got the stacked sandwich which I think is around $11 and it was huge.

I would go for lunch when the menu prices are cheaper and yes the food is excellent and worth it for us and the entertainment is a hoot (although that can be hit or miss)

I must be missing something. :confused3 We absolutely hate 50's Primetime. On our last trip, DS ordered a steak done medium...it was burnt and very thin...more like flank steak. DH ordered fried chicken...had to send it back...it was raw inside ; and the green beans were crispy. I ordered the pot roast...more fat and gristle than meat. Yes, the portions were large and the prices not so large, but if it is not edible, what's the point?????

Also I do not want to pay to have someone yell at me while I eat--"eat my veggies, elbows off the table, no dessert for you missy until you eat everything on your plate." I had enough of that when I was growing up. When I eat, I want a relaxing atmosphere with a server who "serves" me, not yells at me.

We loved 50's PTC and I definetly think it's worth paying OOP.:thumbsup2 We skipped it this year because I like to try new places all the time and the kids opted to try Sci-Fi. We won't make the same mistake again--the food and service was much better at 50's PTC.::yes::

Definitely!!! We went last year and paid out of pocket. I just tried to book today again to take my parents, but they're full. Sometimes it's just nice to have a break. It reminded me of sitting in my Grandma's kitchen.

Hate to be the party pooper but we didn't care for it. It was about 3 years ago though. We had the deluxe dining plan. Our waitress must have been new. She wasn't really good at kidding with my husband or wasn't that into character. The food was so so. Kinda reminded me of hospital food.

There are very few places there I would pay out of pocket without alot of thought ... and that is one I definitely would. By time you pay for counter, it would be worth the additional for the good food, being served and enjoying a table meal. Fun and different decor with some funny antics. We just ate there again a couple weeks ago taking family who had never been and enjoyed !

I think the 50's Prime Time is a lot of fun, and one of the restaurants I go to on every trip. I'm on the dining plan in December, and we are planning on paying out of pocket for this meal since we are using most of our credits at two credit places. The pot roast is amazing.

It is a very fun Disney dining experiene! Definately worth the money out of pocket! Good suggestion to go at lunch.

You have to remember that it is a themed resturant and the whole "please and thank you" stuff is just part of the fun. If you can sit back, relax, and be a part of the fun then go for it. If you want a boring quiet meal where all you hear is your fork hitting the plate then this is not for you.

Be sure to get the Penaut Butter and Jelly Milkshake.......trust me......it is amazing!!!

Hospital food? Really? I have eaten at numerous different hospitals (I'm a nurse) and I would have LOVED it if just one had food that tasted like the 50's cafe!

Maybe you just caught it on a bad day??:confused3 We love the 50's cafe. This is the one restaurant my girls request every time! I LOVE that brownie sundae!

Big fan of 50's here, love their fried chicken/meatloaf! It's a fun place and if you get a good waiter/waitress you can really have a great time here! Definetly worth paying OOP as their prices are pretty reasonable.

Or like my friend who had the "mother" take his fork, fill it with greens and march it towards his mouth with a "chugga, chugga, chugga".... and got the other guests into it..... :lmao:

Granted he did that for funsies.... wasn't expecting THAT, though.....

TOTALLY WORTH IT, IMO. :)

We have eaten here 3x and the food/service was always just as it should be. I loved the pot roast - just as good as grandma's used to be. When we made our ADR's back on August 30, this was the only place we couldn't get into (party of 11). My dd called yesterday to add the info for Magical Express and asked if there were any openings for the day we wanted - we got in for dinner at 6:55 and we cancelled Chefs de France.

Does anyone know if you can order the potpie for dinner? If it's not on the dinner menu can you still order it? TIA
