Is 50s Prime Time any good?

My DH and I have an ADR for lunch at 50s Prime Time next week and I am debating cancelling it. Is the food any good there? Is there a better lunch option at DHS?

We personally prefer Sci-Fi over 50s Prime Time. OTH, I've seen people post the opposite. I would check out the menus and see what appeals to you most.

We like it. They have great ice cream floats; sodas; desserts if you are interested in that. I know the reviews are mixed, but we really like Mama Melrose. We usually pick it over 50's Prime Time. I really like their chicken campanelle. We like it because it is kind of like a "break" from the parks. It usually is not as loud in there, and it is not as bright as a lot of places. I'm usually tempted by their wine flight too.

I have not liked Primetime, but it has its fans. I agree with above poster-I like Mama Melrose, though it can be hit or miss. I also like Brown Derby. I am not a fan of any of the counter service places. It has been a few years, but Sci Fi is a fun experience and the burger is good.

We love it. That is the one place the kids insist on each trip. It is reasonably priced, we like the fried chicken and the portions are large enough that we can share two meals for three of us. We can eat there cheaper than CS and we haven't found a CS that we like at HS anyway.

I think it is pretty comparable to your typical lunch place outside the kingdom (like a TGIFridays, Applebees or Ruby Tuesday) but some of their items are really good like their onion rings and most notably their Dad's Sundae (that is to "die for" of you're a chocoholic like me although rumor has it that it was taken off the menu but then put back on maybe? Not sure) I think it's a fun experience and has a very unique atmosphere.

IMHO the food quality is much better than Sci-Fi from our experiences. It's one of those places you have to dine in at least once. And bring your sense of humor because the servers are your Cousins and depending on who you get they do have their "sarcastic" but fun antics. (if you don't like that then you might not want to dine there-sometimes the servers can be "very" into the "role" and sometimes not so much but it is fun-usually the bigger the party to more antics;)

50's was the highlight of our vacation last fall. The food was good, but my entire family loved the antics. We still joke about our waiter/cousin.

We have found it to be hit or miss and most enjoyed by the kids in our party. The peanut butter and jelly shake is a highlight.

There are two fun choices at HS and neither are particularly known for their food.

1.) Sci-Fi Dine-In, and
2.) 50's Prime Time.

The food is OK at both.

Split one combo platter, A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes - with fried chicken, pot roast & meatloaf. It should be more than enough for two people.

The food is fine. Nothing special. Go for the experience and the milk shakes. Same with Sci Fi. Hopefully you will get a fun server who will make your experience enjoyable. That's what Disney is all about anyways.

We loved the food, but my family loves 'comfort' food (i.e., fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf, etc.). The portions are huge, so we share when we eat there. And we skip dessert, opting instead to share shakes as well (they're huge as well, and our server always brings us an extra glass).

Sci Fi has some good options as well, though I find the menu better (quality wise) across the board at 50s.

But my advice is usually to look at menus and go to the restaurant whose menu mosts appeals to you. I've made the mistake of going to restaurants at WDW that get great reviews but whose menus aren't really appealing...only made that mistake a few times before figuring out I'd rather eat an 'ok' taco (because I love tacos) than a *great* piece of tilapia when I'm not a tilapia fan.

We liked it well enough. We've only been once because we've started shying away from large meals in general, but there was nothing specific that would keep us from returning should the mood strike.

I think it's a place you have to go to for the experience-we went once and the server, "Mom," was fabulous. I kept putting my elbows on the table and she threatened to punish me. I finally wound up standing with my nose against the wall holding up a sugar packet, with the entire restaurant yelling "Keep your elbows off the table!" If you don't like being the center of attention like this, maybe don't eat here. Or keep your elbows off the table.

Now, the *second* time we ate here, our server was not interested in any antics, being totally involved with a large party at one of his other tables. We got no attention or laughs at all. During that meal was when we discovered that without the experience the food was only so-so. *shrugs* Ya rolls the dice and takes yer chances.

We went on both our trips (2010 and 2016) and really enjoyed it both times. There were definitely more "antics" in 2010, though. Perhaps because there were 13 in our group last year and that's a bit overwhelming. All 13 liked the food, though.

We ate there about eight years ago and really enjoyed it. Maybe it has changed since then? We keep meaning to go back. The entire experience was really fun- our kids love leave it to beaver so it was a bit like that for them. Last year we ate at sci-fi for the second time and we love that too. Milkshakes are amazing. They were only giving car booths to people with reservations and they tried to get us to take a booth not in the car shape. With three boys, we said we would wait for the car. So heads up if you end up going to sci-fi and the car booth is important to you.

We had them bOth for the first time last year. We vastly preferred the food at sci-if.

Not a fan, DH and I shared the combo for lunch last year and we didn't like any of the items on it. The milkshake was fine but nothing special.
