I really want to add on at BLT. We are a family of 4, DH, me, DDs 8 and 11. We just bought at AKV last year 280 points (180 in May and 100 more in December..not enough). We go to WDW at least once a year and have for several years, we love it.

I really want in at BLT, but just don't have the money right now for the 100 point add on to get the best incentives. What I was thinking was that we could add on 50 points to get the $8 discount. Can I put only $2,500 on my Disney Visa interest free for 6 months or the whole thing???

I have the cash in savings to pay it off, but don't really want to use all of that. I thought if I could only put the $2,500 on the visa, I would roll the remaining $2,700 into my monthly payments and that shouldn't be that bad of a payment increase.

I am probably crazy, but just want in soooo bad. I have this disease in a bad way!:lmao:

UPDATE POST #12

Depends on what size room you stay in, and when you like to travel. I was looking at the points charts for 2010, and if you travel during the summer and would settle for a value view, you could bank/use/borrow and stay in a studio for a week every 3rd year. Personally, we decided against it. We stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom, and 50 points just wouldn't get us much (even with banking/using/borrowing).

Best of luck with your decision! I have read where people say that BLT is a great value if you purchase, but use the points to stay elsewhere (because the MFs are so low). So, if you wanted to add 50 points on now, and eventually add more on later, you can always use the points to book at another resort and take advantage of low MFs. :thumbsup2

We normally stay in a one-bedroom. If we bought here we would have to stay in a studio for 2 or 3 nights at the beginning of our trip and then move somewhere else for a week in a one-bdrm. That's what I was thinking at least. Those studios do look so tight. I would hope we could add another 50 points or so in a few years for cash so we could get into a 1 bedroom later.

I just added on at BLT with 130 points. I am getting 6 months, interest free on all the charges that went to the card.

Disney sent it in three or four different installments and all of them have "qualifying promo" next to them.

At first, I wasn't sure, but I have not yet been charged the interest (and the first amount went on in Feb). And, I am still able to use the card. I pay off all the charges, and 1/6 of the DVC amount each month.

It's great because I am doing another 50 point add on at BLT the first week in June and will pay it with the card again, just so I can take the 6 months to pay.

Good luck!!!

Hmm...that's what I would like to do because I want to pay cash for 1/2 of the $5200 and fiance the other 1/2. I went on the Chase site and read that it is only the 10% downpayment or $2500 whichever is LESS. That would only be $520. I hope it is the way you say because I have the cash to pay the half, but would like to just try and pay it off the visa if there is no interest and save my cash. I guess we'll see....

BTW, DH is totally on board with doing this!!!!! We'll be BLT owners!!!!:yay:

Speaking from experience, we put $2,500 on our Disney Visa and received the six months no interest. And, for what it's worth, if we would have just put down the 10%, it would have less than the $2,500 figure. From what I've read here on the Boards, it appears that Chase is offering six months no interest on all charges associated with DVC. Either way, congratulations and welcome home, neighbor!! :goodvibes

Congratulations!!! I didn't know, until the bills came, that I would be getting it on all the charges. It was a nice surprise. And there was a thread awhile back where someone called and was told that she would, indeed, get 6 months on whatever charges went to the card.

Good luck!!

There aren't very many standard view studios (I read the breakdown somewhere, sorry I didn't keep it) -- most of them are Lake view, so it might be wise to figure on that for the points charts. I've been really tempted to add on BLT 50 points also, and I wrote out a whole page of logic why I really have enough points to cover what I expect we will actually do for the next several years of travel! (But I plan to do the tour next month, and may yet succumb to the temptation, even tho I don't like the layout of the studios at BLT, with the bathroom sink in the "kitchen").

Do you have your heart set on staying in a MK view? Or in a standard view?

So far, it looks like there will be availability for Lake View villas at the 7 month mark for most times of the year. 1 Bedroom units generally book more slowly than studios or 2 bedroom units. May shouldn't be a problem and I was able to get a 1 bedroom LV at 7 months for late November/early December without waitlisting.

Consider using your AKV points at 7 months for a few trips to see if you really need the 11 month advantage for the times you normally travel.

I would visit the models before I bought into BLT as a family of 4 planning to stay in studios. We're an empty nest couple, who usually stays in studios when we travel alone, and have decided if we stay at BLT, it will have to be in a one bedroom. The studios seemed too tight for us, plus it's the one bedroom decor that sold us on BLT, even more than the location.

Adding on at BLT is something we want to do, but we're waiting to pay off the add ons that we have on the card, interest free before we get another of those add on "loans." We added on in November/December BCV/VWL.

I agree about the studios being really small for 4 people. We went and toured and I thought I'd love it. I detested the size of the studio and would feel claustrophobic. However, I love the layout and size of the 1 bedroom! I would prefer to stay anywhere else than BLT if the only option was a studio. That's just my personal opinion though.

Thanks for everyone's replies. We were all set to do the add on, but then reality set in. I am the main bread winner in the house and the one with the health insurance. I work for the state and this present fiscal year my agency almost ran out of money and we would have been laid off for several months if that happened. The governor bailed us out, but left us in the hole for the beginning of the new fiscal year. The governor says that this fiscal (starting July 1) the state will start 1 BILLION dollars in the hole, so we are going to have problems again this year. So my agency will have a tough go of it and could run out of money again with no bail out this time. So.....we aren't buying BLT. Keep our savings and try to build up some more. How I hate being a grown up!:sad1:
