So, in listening to the Dreams Unlimited Travel Podcast Network over the last few months I have been hearing that the projections for hotel occupancy in Walt Disney World are already down about 2% for 2019. I have done a little research on my own and with some other factors that are taking place, I believe this coming year (2019) might be the last negative sales year for Walt Disney World Resorts in the foreseeable future.
At the end of 2019 Galaxy's Edge will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios, (The official target is "late fall" but as it has been said many times, that could mean as late as Dec. 20th, 2019)
Galaxy's Edge will surely coincide with a fairly significant 2020 price increase, if economic fundamentals of supply and demand mean anything, coinciding with a very healthy economy going into 2020, unless something drastically changes before then, but I digress.
The demand to see this new park, or sub-park within Disney's Hollywood Studios will increase interest in all of Walt Disney World significantly, possibly leading to fewer discounts during the year, since Disney will not have to entice people to show up nearly as much. Look for fewer free dining weeks, and less discounts on room rates, plus higher RAC rates because of blurring lines between resort categories.
Then moving into 2021, this is the Magic Kingdom's 50th Anniversary. We already know that 90% of the construction in the Orlando area is in preparation of this year long celebration of the Mouse. Disney is upgrading all of its resorts and building a sky-way gondola system to help move people around, expanding roads around Orlando, basically doing everything that they can to prepare for the onslaught of people who will want to take park in the 50th Anniversary year long celebration. And that doesn't even include what's going on in the parks themselves, the Tron coaster, the new Guardian's of the Galaxy Ride, probable refurbishments to EPCOT.
Now with all of this new, cool, very expensive stuff on the horizon, unless you are a DVC Member, or one of those families who vacations in Disney World every year, why are you going in 2019? Disney is still really expensive as a vacation, and the odds of additional attractions being down while Disney construction is going on is high. Prime example being Tomorrowland Speedway being closed and reconfigured for the Tron coaster. among I'm sure many others that we have yet to hear about.)
If you are planning your once in a lifetime, or once in 5 year, or once in 3 year trip to Disney World, aren't you going to wait for Galaxy's Edge, or the 50th Anniversary? So, with that in mind, my fellow DisBoard Inhibitors, we are already seeing discounts, GOOD DISCOUNTS, this fall (2018), do you folks agree with me that next fall (Sept/Oct/Nov 2019) might just be the least expensive time to go to Disney World in the say 3/5/10 years or so?
I can't see any other way to think about this, but if anyone has a different perspective, I'd really love to hear it. I'm looking to plan my next Disney World vacation during what I see as this slow time, and I hope this may have convinced one or two of you to do the same. But, not too many of you, I still want to get good deals.
Hope this message finds everyone well, and remember...
A day at Disney World is better than a day anywhere else.
I'm at @IfIRanDisney on Twitter if you want to hit me up there to talk about this or anything else Disney World... If you didn't want to post here.
