Okay, FINALLY finished up my taxes today. Filed electronically through Turbo Tax. Now here's my question. I've never been this late getting done, so I've never worried about this. But, it says at the end (like usual), your return has been forwarded to the appropriate taxing agency. Please check back in 24-48 hours to see if your return has been completed or rejected and to finish your filing process. Okay - so have I met the deadline or not??? :confused3

I am about 99.9% sure you are ok. Your submittal is like your "postmark" so you are ok. Your tax forms have to be POSTMARKED by midnight on the 17th, not received or 'accepted'.

::yes::

I'm glad you asked that. I just finished my taxes last night with turbo tax and wasn't sure they would be excepted on time, but it makes since that it is the same as mailing it and having it post marked by the 17th. I was really stressing out about the tax deadline this year. Normally I have my taxes done by the middle of Febuary and this year I put it off until the last posible minute. :rolleyes: I just hope I didn't make any mistakes in my desparate race to get them done on time. :blush:

I could have written this post myself!! :teeth: My Mom was in shock yesterday when I asked her to keep the kids so I could get my taxes done. She couldn't believe I hadn't started them. Mine are usually done and waiting on W2's at the end of January. No real reason why I put it off other than I just haven't had time. I knew we would be getting a refund, but I literally just haven't had a chance to sit down and do them.

Keep in mind that if you are expecting a refund, the filing deadline doesn't really apply. :thumbsup2

I don't think this is accurate, you still need to file by the deadline refund or not.

Actually, it is accurate. The deadline is really for those who owe the government more money. If you don't owe them more, then you can file up to something like 2 years later to get your refund.

That's very interesting. I never thought about it.....but it makes sense.

Yes. I used to work in a public accounting firm, so I know this is true. Your taxes are due by April 15th (or in this year's case, the 17th). If you are due a refund, you have no taxes due. As a matter of fact, if you don't file on time and are due a refund, they will pay you interest.

That is one reason why I am taking my time, that and the fact that we are still waiting on DH's w2 from Disney...mail is still so screwed up down here! I got mine on Friday so hopefully that means that his will be here today, or this week!

I learned that fact last year, about the deadline only being for those that owe. It makes sense.
