My 11 yr old wants an iPod Nano for Christmas. Any suggestions? I don't know where to start and are there necessary accessories I need to buy too? :confused3

Nano's are great, my girls both got the Shuffle last year and my 11 year old now wants my Nano. I have the 2 GP, paid ~$200 for it last year, saw the Best Buy ad for tomorrow and they have the 4GB for that price. Very versatile, all you'll need is internet access to get iTunes, their music service. It's free and very user friendly, songs are $.99 each, most albums run $9.99 for the download. You can then burn them to CD's for your own use too. Only thing I might invest in is a AC charger, the only thing they come with is a USB cord to charge through the computer, takes forever.

The Nanos are even better now that they have the aluminum casing but they are very small, so hopefully your son will not lose or misplace it, if you are unable to get a great deal on one try the apple website, they offer free engraving and free shipping and they also have the red ones (to support that AIDS cause) My only concern is that they are so small, easily lost. I agree with the previous poster about the AC adaptor and maybe a skin or at the very least a case with a clip on it.

DD14 got the nano last Christmas. So far she has managed to keep up with it! She takes it everywhere. She has the car charger to go with it because she uses it so much! She's got every color skin that they make.

She wants the new ones for this year, but she isn't getting it. Her nano is no where near full, and she downloads new songs constantly.

My 10 and 11 yos will be getting 2nd generation shuffles this year. If they can prove to me that they can keep track of this 1GB device, I'll consider upgrading them later.

I paid $74 per unit for them from www.onsale.com. I checked www.pricegrabber.com to see who had the best prices and onsale won.

You can buy refurbished ones from the apple website. They are about half the price or less and still come with the 1 year warranty.

The main thing accessory-wise that I'd suggest is a case that comes with a protective screen cover (like the static-cling type that sticks directly onto the nano itself). The screens tend to scratch quite easily (or at least they do on the 1st-generation nanos) and a decent screen cover will virtually eliminate that.
