OK, I don't anything about Ipods so pardon my ignorance.

DS wants an Ipod for Christmas. My question is we don't have a Mac, we have Windows. Can we transfer the songs from our computer to an Ipod? Or do we need to have a Mac for it to be compatible? If not, what do you recommend. DS just wants something that he can transfer from the computer so he can listen to music on the way to school.

Help, please!

You'll be fine with a Windows PC. The iTunes software is available in both Mac and Windows versions and will allow you to take music from CDs and put them on the iPod, but songs from the iTunes store, etc.

No you don't have to have a Mac. If you buy an Ipod, you can download Itunes for free from Apple's website. The only way you will be able to get songs on the Ipod is through Itunes.

It really is easy after you get used to it. Just add songs to your Music list in Itunes and plug up the Ipod and the computer and Ipod do the rest. You can download songs from cd's, or buy songs from Itunes or any program that you can download music from.

As others have said you can still do iTunes on Windows. Might I suggest as a stocking stuffer an iTunes gift card so he can download some songs? They usually run 99 cents on there, but if there are some songs he doesn't have in his CD collection, those gift cards come in handy!:music:

I am a technologically inept PC user, and I can get songs on my ipod easily, so no worries. ;) And you can actually put free downloads on it too, if you chose to use one of those programs. Just click and drag it from, say, limewire into itunes. Then load it on normally.
I LUV my ipod!!

He can also upload CDs he has onto iTunes, and then put them on his iPod.

yup pc is all you need for the ipod, but with a mac your computing life is so much simpler :thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone:goodvibes

pp, my son wants the largest memory possible:rolleyes: , but we'll see about that.

OK, I'm off to Best Buy:dance3:

iPods are easy to use with PCs.

But I think it depends on how you put the songs into your computer in the first place. I had a bunch of WMAs and was never able to put them in the iPod. Had to re-buy the ones I'd bought and haul the CDs out and re-load them into the iTunes.

I've heard about programs or software (or whatever it is called) that you can get to turn WMAs into MP3s or whatever, but it all sounded too complicated for me to bother.

It was a major pain in the patootie, but the ipod is so much better that in the long run, it was worth it.
