iPod Alarm Clock Question

Hi all. Last summer we had a 1BR at SSR and we had problems with the iPod alarm clock. My husband and I tried everything to get it to work, keep time, etc., we just had problems all around. Besides the fact that we didn't know how to use it, we ended up not relying on it at all.

This year we're staying at Kidani and I believe they too have the iPod alarm clock/home docking stations. Has anyone had success with them? I do have an iPod, but not an iPhone. I want to use it as an alarm clock. Can you enlighten me? I thought I was pretty "with it", technologically speaking, but who knows...:confused3

Thanks.

I remember resetting the time on the one we had in our BLT villa. But didn't use the alarm. Perhaps if you google, Ihome instruction manual, and then locate the model you had in the room, you can read those instructions. Otherwise, maintenance should be able to tell you how when you are at the resort.

I used it for an alarm clock at BWV this summer. It worked fine. Although I have to admit my initial reaction the first time a saw them was the same as yours. Namely, "How do you use this thing." I think the thing that helped me at BWV this summer was to get some decent lighting on it and then I read the button labels.(part of the problem is they have more than the usual options of your normal clock radio) Once I was able to do that I didn't have any problems with it.

Of course if you have one you can go to your local best buy and try one out so that you're more familiar before you arrive. Or you can probably get the operating manual off the Apple website to familiarize yourself with it. But like I said it seemed really straight forward to me once I understood what all the buttons and sliders did.

Hope this helped. Here is some pixiedust to help. pixiedust:

Maybe they could have just bought some ALARM CLOCKS. H-E-L-L-O!!!!

I appreciate the gesture but damn; I'm a technologist by trade and I even have a hard time operating the things. :lmao:

After my list trip to BWV, I added "alarm clock" to my list of things to add to my Owner's Locker.

I was intimidated by the thing, and I didn't want to mess up on setting the alarm. I ended up doing wake-up calls.

I use my iPhone as an alarm. It works fine and I don't have to be bothered.

I never can get the time reset (seems it's always off in every room we get) and wind up unplugging it. Last trip I googled it but the diagrams online did not look like the back of the one I had in the room.

I am so happy to learn that I am not alone! Thank you for starting this thread. :goodvibes

Do they work with iPhones? I know some iHome docks will charge and not play or vice versa. Can anyone confirm if it will charge and still play the iPhone? (The one I have makes my iPhone go to "Airplane" mode, but I'm fine with that - stops it from ringing overnight anyway).

IME they will usually charge and play. When you dock your iPhone, you'll get a message that the accessory was not designed to work with the iPhone, along with advice to switch to airplane mode to avoid interference. (If you are running the new iOS, the message is different and doesn't mention airplane mode anymore.) That said, when I was at AKV in March, the one in my room didn't always charge and I'm not sure why.

Thanks for your responses, and for the link to the instructions :goodvibes

I hate to say that I'm glad I'm not alone (but I'm glad I'm not alone!)

I ended up using my cell phone as the alarm last year, which worked fine, but it would've been nice to know how to use what was in the room! Thanks again!

We have an Itouch and couldn't get it charge on the Ihome. Hopefully someone will answer about the Iphone soon.

I could not figure it out at BLT and didn't worry about it. I just use the wake up call service on the phone.

I also set my iPhone, just in case. And the my iPhone didn't seem to charge either.

Don't like them either, the time is always wrong and we can't figure out how to change it.

When we used the docking station at HH last month, we had to take our case off our Iphones to get them to sit in it properly so that they would charge.
After that, it worked fine. I don't use them as alarm clocks though. We just set our phones.
