Am considering an iphone. Have been looking at the att website. They have refurb 3g model for 79.00. website also says 15.00 for data. I thought i had heard internet was very expensive for the iphone????

The $15 option is a recent addition! Very thankful they are giving us some choices.

I had the $30 unlimited plan, which was the original plan. I switched to the $15 monthly plan when that was introduced. I do not even come close to the allowed amount of data on the $15 plan. I guess it depends on what/how much you are going to use the data portion of the phone. LOVE my iPhone!

Looking into an iphone here too... (still using up my pay as you go minutes)

Yea about $15/mo data plan. Not only that, but if you access wifi (home, cafe, etc...) you can do internet on wifi for free (and not use data) I think that reason alone would keep myself from going over the $15/mo plan.

So, does the data charge only come when using Edge or 3G?? If I'm using it at home with WI-FI, then there's no charge???

Wifi at WDW is hard to find, so that use will be all Edge & 3g

Where do you find the refurbs on AT&Ts site? It's time for us to upgrade and all I see are new phones....but I do remember in the past seeing refurbs for much less.

i have been debating that for a bit now... going to iPhone.

I have a "non-smart" phone with a $30 unlimited texting and data plan right now. I don't like that I have to now pay $45 for unlimited texting but only 2GB of data... I use about 1.3GB a month without all the options i would have on the iPhone.

Because of this i decided to keep my phone and get an iPod touch...

Please do not purchase an iPhone 3G! The latest software release from Apple (iOS 4) doesn't work well with this older model and slows it down significantly. I upgraded to an iPhone 4 last month because I couldn't stand how badly my 3G was performing. You should be fine with a newer model: an iPhone 3GS or an iPhone 4. You might also want to look at prices on eBay and Craigslist for comparison.

PS - I love my iPhone & will never own anything else. It's the best toy ever. :-)

I got my iPhone 3GS a copule months ago and I love it! It was $99 when I signed the 2 year contract. I have the $15 data plan and I've only used about a quarter of the limit the first 2 months. They also told me that it's no problem to change my plan to increase or decrease the data plan, texting and phone minutes if I needed to.

I had a prepaid phone before this and an Itouch and it's much easier to only carry one device.

i was just going to post this. You can't upgrade the software on the 3g, at the very least get a 3gs

Hm. I have an iPhone 3G and we just upgraded it to the latest software this weekend. It was awful on OS 4.0; it's running MUCH better on 4.1. Just FYI.

To the original poster, thank you so much for posting this - I had no idea the data prices had dropped and we'll be adjusting accordingly! :goodvibes I was actually questioning whether or not I even wanted to keep my iPhone any longer, the cost was so high. This will definitely help cut our (2 iPhone household) bill down. Thanks!!

I have a 3gs and LOVE it... I was almost always under 200mb a month until the stereo at work broke and I discovered Pandora! Once (if) you start streaming music and video, you will exceed the $15 with ease.
I would probably get away with the $25 plan, but I will stick with the unlimited plan as long as I am grandfathered in.
As some previous posters mentioned, I would also go with the 3GS. They are also marked down now, although not as much. Google up 3g - 3gs comparison chart.

I'm glad that the newest update is working for you. Unfortunately, it made no difference on my phone. Believe me, I tried everything to avoid upgrading since I didn't want to spend the $200. (Interestingly, I just sold my 3G on eBay for more than the price of my iPhone 4. I have no idea what people are doing with them!)
