iPhone app Family Map, can you use in the parks?

This app tracks family members via their iPhones using GPS. I'm trying it out, but so far it seems pretty vague. It can locate another phone within 2 miles in my area. Not terribly useful if you've misplaced Dad at Epcot.

Has anyone successfully used this feature at WDW?

I'm assuming that the app uses GPS. Under perfect conditions, not a metal structure etc., GPS doesn't work well inside buildings. On some rides you can't even get cell service. Soaring is in a metal building and I guess because of where the tower is, I get very little service with Verizon once past the first queue. So its not a limitation of the app but the GPS system itself.

So I would just use texting and not worry about tracking everyone though their phone, but also realize that they may not get the message right away.

Thanks Chartle. I decided to take your advice as the GPS app was not at all accurate anyway. I was hoping it would be a safety net for lost kids (they each have an iphone) but it just isn't accurate enough. Plus it really sucked down the battery, and I know that is a commodity to be hoarded in the parks!

Yea you are just going to have to use good old parenting skills.

Oh and knowing that you should be able to get a hold of your kid with in 2 minutes pretty much anywhere in the US and or Canada depending on your cell plan.

I have to ask, are you more worried about the kids or the husband. Based upon your first post does he get lost a lot?

PS Don't bring up putting him on a leash. Those threads go bad quickly.
