We have three kids, ages 8, 6, and 2 and all use my DH Iphone for games (both fun and educational)
We are thinking of ITouches for Christmas--they do not have any personal gaming devices--we have only purchased Wii for the whole family. For those of you with kids, do you prefer the Itouch for them or IPad? Obviously one is double or even triple the price of the other, and we went to the apple store and the Ipad just seems so much more fragile for our kids to be using.

We have both in our house DH had a bone marrow transplant in May so i got him the ipad 2 so he could skype with the kids from the hospital he loves it but he is very easy to please. DD has an ipad and loves it. DS has my old iphone (not activated so it's like an itouch) and loves it but wishes he had an ipad. Good Luck

My kids are 13 & 8 and each have their own iTouches and as a family we have an iPad 2. We are Apple junkies and have everything Apple :rotfl: Anyway I prefer the iTouch for the kids and I think they would agree. They are constantly on theirs and take it with them everywhere. The iPad 2 doesn't get much use from them. DH & I use it more. And honestly, since we both have an iPhone we use that more than anything. I would say get them each their own iTouches.(well, maybe not the 2 year old ;)) My kids both had PSP Go's and Nintendo DS's and never even touch those anymore. Also the Wii just collects dust! But not those iTouches, they love them! DS who is 8 has a thicker rubber case over his iTouch and I never worry about it and believe me he has dropped it a lot! We have the protective cover over the screen and have not had any problems with either of the kids iTouches. FYI, the iPad 2 isn't as fragile as it looks and you just have to get a really good protective case.

My two oldest boys, 17 and 14, have had ipod touches for two years now. They are gaming junkies and they have hardly ever touched their gameboys or PSPs since. The ipod touch has basically replaced those handhelds. And they actually spend more time doing educational things now. Most of their friends are strictly ipod touch, as well. Now we have discussed an ipad but it seems only my hubby and I are interested in that and mostly just for sitting around at home with it. Otherwise, we would be using our own touch or iphones for portability.
My youngest had been hogging his brothers' ipods since he was three. His brothers begged me to get him his own since he was always using theirs. He got one when he turned five. I got a warranty on it through square trade to cover accidental damage since he is young. But luckily he is good with it. So, if sharing is going to be an issue I would stick with the touch and save yourself the arguments. And I would definitely invest in an additional warranty that covers accidental damage (since Apple's won't). There are fairly inexpensive and there are always discount codes for those on the internet, too. Square Trade is usually cheaper on Amazon, if you don't find a code. But they always send me offers for at least 30% off through email, so maybe you should sign up for a newsletter.
Hope this helps!

My Mom has an Ipad with 3g which is nice my kids think its cool to see the games supersized compared to my iTouch =) However portability? Nice to have at home or sitting on a plane. We are buying our 9 & 7 yr old the iPod Touches since they like carrying their DS's around in their small purses. DS5 and DD4 are getting LeapPad's for educational and fun purposes =)

Our DSs have the touches while we have an iPad2 for the family which I also use for work purposes. The kids really like both but if they are streaming Netflix they prefer the bigger screen. The touches travel easier due to their compact size and they play the same games. My DH and I both have iPhones which have the same games as the kids so it keeps our DS4 entertained while waiting places. Our last touch was a refurbished one for less than $100 from the Apple store and it is still going strong.
