Wow, what a game!!! Way to go, Hawkeyes!!
Hawks win Orange Bowl, 24-14
Great game!! I love it when the analysts and commentators don't give Iowa any respect! We just come back and make them eat their words! Like when they all said that Iowa could not shut down the vaunted Georgia Tech triple option offense - well, 32 total yards in the entire first half, and a total of 7 points from the offense was pretty good to me! And STILL, Jimmy Johnson says at the end of the game that it was only because Iowa had a month to prepare, and that if this was played a week after the season, the outcome would have been different. Yeah, right, Jimmy. Keep on saying that, and we'll just keep on winning. At least Eddie George, Big Ten guy that he is, picked us - and even thought that Iowa should have won against his alma mater, The Ohio State University.
Ricky Stanzi showed that there was no rust on him after not playing for 2 months, after an ankle sprain and surgery. He didn't miss a beat, even giving up an interception, just to keep the game exciting.
And poor Daniel Murray, the place kicker, running for his life after the fake field goal attempt! Our DD knows him and went to high school with him, and says that his mom can hardly watch him at the games - I'm sure she was terrified as that huge GT safety was bearing down on him!
Hats off to Adrian Clayborn! What a great game he had! Two sacks and nine tackles, and the game MVP!! And thanks to his decision to return to finish his senior year, we can good forward to more exciting plays from him next year!! Wooo hooo!!
Norm Parker, the defensive coordinator, is just a genius. His strategy held GT to a game total 155 yards and only 9 first downs. They just totally shut down that famous offense.
After a bitter 38 - 17 loss to USC in the Orange Bowl seven years ago, this time, the oranges sure are a lot sweeter. And cold weather? Just perfect for Iowa football, it turns out.
