I had a 3G iPhone (I skipped the 3GS upgrade) and I downloaded OS4.

It turned my snappy little iPhone into something rather useless.

Things stopped working, those that worked slowed down....I went from loving my phone to not liking it all that much.

I think OS 4 is Apple's way of getting people to upgrade their 3G phones.

I refuse to switch to OS4 because of such issues. I got my 3G two weeks before the 3GS came out and have heard of nothing but problems. I'm not eligible for the fourth phone either, so I'll just continue loving my 3G.

I'm so glad this thread is here. I hope more people respond with their issues or lack thereof.

I have been debating whether to update my 3GS or not. I'll guess I'll hold off for a while longer til I hear if these issues are resolved.

OK, glad to know it's not just me. Downloaded it to my Touch, and now it's taking forever to get e-mail. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

It's my understanding that the 3GS responds well.

It's the 3G phones that get bogged down.

This is exactly what happend with my 3G :headache: I hate it now. My aps freeze or quit working all the time, and are so much slower. I told my husband the same thing...they made OS4 crappy for us 3G owners so we'd get the iPhone 4. After seeing all my issues my husband has decided against updating his software, smart man!

I kept my 3G away from ios4 as I knew I'd be getting an iPhone 4 days later, by the sounds of it I dodged the bullet and still have a nice functioning 3G to use as an extra iPod touch :)

:goodvibes

I've read mixed things about the new OS on a 3G. My own experience has been quite positive however. I have 16GB 3G, awaiting an e-mail from my local Apple Store to pick up my iPhone 4, but I digress. :)

As I said, I am now having zero issues with iOS 4 on my 3G. Initially, things WERE a bit slow, and some apps didn't seem even useable. (Tomtom comes to mind). I did some research, and while I don't quite understand WHY, I found that rebooting my phone 2 times, and using settings>general>reset>reset all settings, has made the phone even faster than before.

Reset all settings did NOT wipe any data, or make any major changes, it DID however reset preferences and such, which were easy enough to play with.

My phone is now running as good as before, and faster in some ways. This makes me quite happy, as I'm giving it to my wife as soon as my new one comes in. :lmao:

For me, i love the folders, and being able to run Pandora in the background, but its way to slow. I sat for 5 minutes waiting for a page in the App Store to load. IM running it on a 3rd Gen. Touch.

I have an iPod touch 3G and installed ios4 and hasn't given me any problems yet.

If you skipped the 3GS, then you should be eligible for the iPhone 4 at the full subsidized pricing. I got mine on launch day, after I worked an evening shift at my local Apple store activating countless iPhone 4 upgrades. I will say that without a case or "bumper" on the phone, you do have to watch how you hold it. After I bought the bumper, the signal issue was gone.

Fact of the matter is, antenna issue aside, this is the most sophisticated & beautiful piece of smartphone hardware I've ever seen, how about you?;)

I now use my 3G as a touch with iOS 4 installed. At first it seemed snappier, but then it did seem slower. I am not sure if this is just my brain comparing it to the speed of the iPhone 4 or what. I look at it this way. Just as if you installed a newer operating system on a computer you purchased when the previous version was rolled out it will be slow because the hardware, CPU and RAM, are not up to speed as the newest devices.

I do think it is ridiculous that a basic function like email is slow.

I upgraded my Ipod Touch from 3 to 3S to 4. I haven't seen any problems with it, but I don't use it for the apps that much anymore, I only use it as an Ipod to listen to the Podcast while on my walks now since I have an Iphone - I primarily use the Apps on the phone now.

The upgrade went smoothly on my phone - no issues there either. I am not eligible for an upgrade yet and I figure I will let everyone else work out the bugs with the new phone before I consider upgrading.

Yes, it did not negatively impact my 3Gs at all. In fact it kind of took the fun out of getting my iPhone 4.

Everyone who has a 3GS, dont be afraid to upgrade the os... you wont regret it... I find that mine runs faster, and has slightly better battery life, oddly enough. If you need to see how much faster... take a picture, shutter speed is lightning quick.

I installed iOS4 on my iPhone 3G and it definitely felt slower. Then I jailbroke it, enabling multitasking and homescreen wallpapers and now it's a snail!! I really think I'm going to downgrade it back to 3.1.3.
