We just visited Universal Studios and IOA for the first time, as our kids, now 11 and 14, were old enough to enjoy the coasters. The Studios for the most part are wonderful for anyone, with a few thrill rides (simulators and indoor coasters) that are easily avoided without feeling deprived. Clean and creative. :flower: The Lucy exhibit in particular is a worthwhile tribute, and Shrek is such fun!
IOA, on the other hand: Every ride has to have some kind of thrill. For me, that would be fear, nausea, extreme wetness (created by water, not my fear, LOL), or dizziness. :earseek: Now, I enjoyed IOA for its decor and theming, and because DH and DS1 and 2 loved the coasters and rides, but getting soaked on the raft ride - and I mean SOAKED!! - made me so uncomfortable in myclothes for the day! Then, 11 yo DS, after riding the Hulk and Dueling Dragons 3 times  , asked me to take him on the kiddie coaster. Sure, I said, no biggie, I can certainly do that ! Well, the centrifuge caused my brain to lag behind my head when we stopped, and I didn't recover until the next day :sad2: ! A few people commented that it was certainly no mellow kiddie coaster!!!! So, if you are prone to motion sickness, you should obviously avoid everything at IOA that thrills - perhaps you like to get wet, in which case the 3 water rides are fine. Be warned that Cat in the Hat whirls you around (violently, as my 14 YO put it, and he rides all the coasters) :confused3 . Go with your family if they love it, or stay at your resort and get a massage....and if your entire party isn't seeking thrills galore, spend more time at the Studios.

Take a Dramimine the night before you go to IOA if you get motion sickness. There is also a less drowsy formula available. :goodvibes

And I agree with your comment about the Flying Unicorn (kiddie coaster). It's a lot more intense than you'd expect! I said that back when it was still under construction.

Anyone know to what extent dramamine really works? I had some with me but never even thought about it. And taking it the night before - really?

Many have reported that dramamine makes you drowsy. Take it the night before and that should negate the drowsiness effect while reducing motion sickness.

Actually, I usually take Bonine the night before as to ward off the tiredness and it always works...and I get motion sick extremely easy...

However, I recently took a non-drowsy Dramamine and it worked equally as well...and it DID NOT make me tired.

I love motion simulators, but I do experience motion sickness once in a while.

Last trip, I took Dramamine every morning and only felt motion sickness once, on Spiderman, and it was not that bad at all. They did not make me drowsy.

Just to let you know for any future visits, you can ask the ride attendants at Cat in the Hat to turn off the spinning feature for your car.

I'd also suggest Sea Bands for your next visit to IOA. I wear them if I'm going to do multiple rides on The Hulk or Dueling Dragons. I can usually ride twice in a row on either of those with no problem, but for more than two consecutive rides, I use the Sea Bands.

That feature is no longer available.

Interesting. I, too, am somewhat susceptible to motion sickness, but I've never had a problem on Spider-Man. In fact, I recommend that people who shy away from motion simulators give the ride a try. I guess everyone's different.

:teeth: Good Advice! I was worried :guilty: because a long time has passed since the last time that I did a Roller Coster or any ride. I'm looking foward to try all the rides possible, and I don't want any spoilers....So, a Dramamine every morning it will be!

Thanks :goodvibes
