Hello ladies -
I have been looking for invitations pretty intently these days. I have decided that I really don't want to print my own invitations because my printer really isn't great and I am not in the financial position to buy a new one. However, I DO NOT mind assembling my own invites. So this leads me to my problem. I LOVE pocket style invites with layered paper etc and I also love ribbons (aka Jean M. syle). YOu probably know what I am talking about. The problem is that all the things that I am likeing are just way too expensive for me to even consider. Any suggestions here? I am feeling like I need to just find a new style of invitation to love.

Have you tried Paper Source? They have some good DIY kits, though I don't know what the prices are like....

MickeyAnne, think outside of the box. Consider taking a photo of the two of you and having it turned into the cover of an invitation by any number of greeting card websites (Shutterfly, Kodak, Card Store, etc.). That's what I did for my vow renewal three years ago. I didn't want the usual wedding/vow renewal invitation. That wasn't my style. And so I found an old photo of my husband and I took things from there.

I'll share a couple links to give you a general idea as to what my invitation looked like. Please note that each card was personalized for each of my guests. I also had the cards mailed directly to my guests. My guest list was small and folks either telephoned me or e-mailed me their responses. It worked out beautifully.

Depending upon your guest list size, you could have the cards mailed directly to you so that you could add RSVP note cards, location maps, and anything else that you want to further personalize them with.

Anyhow, just a thought. Please search the 'net for more ideas. Everyone has a different take on creating wedding invitations. I'm sure you'll find something that is perfect for your needs. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

I am going to do a pocketfold style invite. I am planning on getting my materials from Cardsandpockets dot com and taking them to a print shop - my printer isn't good enough to do the printing either. You can get a mock-up kit from Cards and pockets and I already know what I want to do - but I haven't actually had anything printed yet.

Definitely check out cardsandpockets.com . That is where we bought our Pocketfold invites. We are only doing 25 invitations, but it was under $100. I bought the envelopes, pocketfolds, and matte from that site. I bought the rest of the card stock (for the actual invitation and the inserts) at Michaels.

We are printing them at home (but I bought a color laser printer since we're doing all of our stationery). You can easily make your design in Word. It's time consuming and a lot of cutting/cropping. I'm assembling ours this week-- I'll let you know how it goes!

We used www.mygatsby.com and couldn't have been happier with the quality. We recieved all sorts of praise on the invites. I selected the colors to match my "colors" (all with a slight metallic sheen and all heavyweight cardstock - silver and ecru), then had gatsby print the invite portion (with raised metallic ink), the response cards, return adress on envelopes and the reception cards. I then assembled the layers, added some swarovski crystal, satin ribbon and a 2x2 sealer (which i ordered plain from them) and embossed. I have some poor pics that I can show you but they do not to the invites justice.....
