Has anyone seen this movie with Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon?? Its about Nelson Mandela and the South African Rugby team?? Was it good/bad?? Any sex scenes?? The reason I'm asking is my 8 yr old is doing a huge project on South Africa and I thought if there were no inappropriate scenes maybe it would be a good movie for him to see re: his project. TIA

Very good movie. I don't remember anything about sex at all and, considering that the movie is about a rugby team, it is actually very clean. The movie is really about Mandela and his efforts to unite white and black South Africans in a common cause. It shows the genius of this man and is a great example of how important it is for opposing interests to meet half way toward a common goal.

Yes, a great movie. I don't remember the language but I'm sure I just forgot about it. I don't like that stuff so I usually remember any excessive language but I do remember how the characters changed and the general tone of the movie.

Stay for the credits. They show actual footage of the real events.

This is why I thought it would be a great movie for him to see. He picked South Africa as his project. He told me all about Mandela and said "He was just like Martin Luther King wasn't he Mommy?" He really showed alot of compassion and sympathy when he did his research. He also made the connection about segregation here.

Thanks we will I love when movies do this. The blind side also did this.

I'm actually excited. I'm surprizing my son and taking him out of school early tomarrow for a date with Mom to see this movie. Hey, its directly related to his project and he is an awesome student. I also thinks this drives home that people of all races united can do wonderful things.

I also recall that they showed his personal pain. There were scenes that showed his family strife and there was a powerful scene where Matt Damon's character visited the jail cell. That scene, in particular, put me in awe of the man that had so much pain yet gave so much to our world.

Kudos to your son for his insight and to you for instiling in him the wisdom to see it!

DW and I absolutely loved this movie. Freeman was superb as Mandela. He had the mannerisms and the accent down pat. But even more, he conveyed the sheer dignity and power that radiates off Mandela.

One of the best things about the film is that it does not focus solely on Mandela (or on the character portrayed by Damon), but shows the impact of the changes in South Africa on a whole range of people, from several members of Mandela's staff, to a small child about your son's age, who despite his bit part almost steals the movie at the very end. Among the funniest moments come near the beginning of the movie, when the security detail protecting Mandela has to be expanded; watch what happens in the interaction between these people throughout the movie.

The many scenes of South Africa, and the way music is used, is also great.

I think the movie would be perfect for an 8 year old, and it will probably make him (and you) want to visit South Africa. There are no sex scenes and - aside from the action in the rugby scrum (do I have the terminology right?), very little in the way of violence.
