Hi

My parents are thinking about renting from someone who has an exchange. Has any done this before? Did you have problems? Is it just like a DVC ressie? This is okay to do? thanks for you input.

My only concerns about renting an II exchange to a DVC resort is that the renter realize that they will have to pay an additional $95 at check in (this is an exchange fee owed to DVC- paid by the person using the exchange) and that they should make sure their name will be on the reservation. (II has a policy of not allowing exchanges to be "given" to others without paying an additional fee for a guest certificate.)

The name of the reservation will be in the II exchangers name unless it is changed thru II. Just be sure the reservation is changed to the name of the person who will be checking into the resort. (I think that II will have to change the name- not the exchange party).

It does appear there are some good deals available for those willing to rent from a non-member.

Good Luck!

While I personally would be comfortable doing it, there are some things you should know. The $95 fee is actually due before check in though I suspect they will accept it at checkin. To get an exchange then rent it out is against II rules though it's done all the time. You can frequently get a good deal so you must decide if it fits your needs and you're comfortable with the situation and renter. Make sure you get the guest certificate in your name though I suspect the renter will want payment first. Good luck.

Thank you for the info. The renter said the certificates would be in my name and their name. Also, we were told of the 95.00 fee up front. Does housekeeping work the same? So I think this is correct. My parents were worried because it not a DVC ressie. I thank you for all the info once again.

My understanding is no full housekeeping and one trash and towel during the week. And in many ways it is a DVC ressie. Once they have the reservation number in their name, they can even call Member Services for requests and the like.

Again thanks for the reply. Need to comfort my parents, about this. I think there will not be a problem. Thanks again
