Personally I wouldn't go to the DR and if I did, it wouldn't be on an expensive timeshare exchange. I'd recommend places like the Marriott's in Aruba, Westin St. John, Grand Caymanian and Reef in Cayman's and Atlantis. Vegas is another area where using an expensive timeshare to exchange to is not a good choice. If I were going to do so, I'd likely put the Marriott as the top option. While not as plentiful, deals are still to be had for LV.

Going to Vegas on points is probably not the best use of the points. You can alwasy find GREAT Sun-Thurs. trips to Vegas on most commercial websites or Vegas .com.

As a lot of places Vegas hammers you on the weekend but weekday rates are extremely reasonable at even a bunch of the high end hotels.

Just my $.02 you could stay at Flamingo which is center strip. Request a view of Bellagio fountains and have your own water show from the room.

Enjoy Vegas is awesome and I don't gamble!!!

Hey Eddie, I've noticed you can trade into Harborside in the Bahamas. This is the Wildly famous Atlantis resort. I think you would love it. It's through II. I'm a timeshare queen myself. Anyway this is Fabulous.... If you decide to try let me know how it turns out, cause I would love to do this also. Thanks.

Hi - we exchanged to Marriott Aruba Surf Club last October and it was wonderful. It was definitely a worthwhile trade. I think there are three Marriot's in a row on the beach and a trade to one of those would be wonderful.

We also saw some other great resorts along the beach that would be worth trading to. One of them was called something or other Linda and that looked nice.

Aruba was a great place to go. The restaurants are good and we felt safe walking around - even at night, which we did not expect in the Caribbean (it was our first time to the Caribbean).

The only eyesores were the main town - Orangestaddt and the oil refinery at Baby Beach. Other than that, I would highly recommend a trade to Aruba.

thanks for the advice.
Dean, why not DR?
Your choice of course. IMO, DR is a place you go to stay at the resort 100% of the time as well as being a fairly cheap place to go without a timeshare exchange for an All Inclusive (AI).

Are there any all inclusives available for a trade? Mexico for example. I would have thought not, but somewhere someone posted at their stay on Mackinac it included some meals.

The Grande is a Concierge option and many of those do include some food options, for what they cost, they should.

Being on dial up this week it's very hard for me to double check from a timeshare exchange standpoint, but I don't recall any AI that are on the DVC list. A number of the MX and Caribbean resorts have meal plans or optional AI selections, they tend to be very expensive in most situations but no more expensive than the mandatory AI resorsts I'm aware of. II has a few mandatory AI resorts and they are VERY easy to get. The fees tend to be in the $85-100 per person range per day (some more) and are required for each and every day for each person. Having looked at AI resorts at various times, I can honestly say there isn't a single one I'd select for II or RCI. SOME of the meal plans are workable but many aren't.

Here's a good example. Look at the La Cabana Aruba website (formerly on the DVC exchange list) at www.lacabanabrc.com and look at their meal plan options. Paradise Village in MX is another good one with an AI and meal plan option but they don't publish it very well. Their meal plan for members is actually quite reasonable but the AI isn't. IMO, the only way to get good value from an AI is to drink yourself silly.

BTW, none of the resorts on DR that are in II are 5* any longer, several were previously.

thanks. we need a change from disney so I was thinking of an exchange. I called member services and they had nothing available for the caribbean for next year. I am pretty bumbed. I even asked for 2009 and she had nothing.

As a rule they won't have anything good and in demand when you call. This is how timeshare exchanges work. You need to investigate what you want then put in an ongoing search for those choices.

If you want to spend a full week in Vegas and want a timeshare/apartment-type rental instread of a hotel room, trading in might be worth it. I took a look at the list and two places would be worth it in my book - Marriott's Grand Chateau and The Carriage House. Both are very nice (especially the Marriott) with easy access to the Stip and main tourist spots.

I haven't a clue how hard it is to trade into either - but I suspect the Marriott will be difficult if not impossible.

The area (they are next door to each other) is currently a construction war zone (as is much of Vegas). That's going to add noise and clutter to your vacation - but may make it easier to get in at the moment.

When I lived in Vegas and worked at the MGM I could see the Polo Towers when I went to work each day..I noticed that on the list too, so that would be good strip area also.
