How exactly does the internet access at preferred sites work? I am in school and will need to get online at least once a day to make sure my assignments etc. are ok. But I dont know what to expect. I have a laptop with a wireless card. Is that all I need?

I camp all year long and I have a PCS broadband card from a major wireless provider. That costs $$$ but it pretty much gives me access anywhere in the USA. That is option 1.

At FW I have been told that you can rent a cable modem to be used at your site for $10 a day at the front desk. I would call before you go and find out as I have never done this but I hear that they do it now. Down side is that you have to have a premium site because it would use the cable coming from the post at the site.

Would that rental be the same for the cabins? I homeschool our son and will need to log on to get his lessons and record attendance for days I teach him down there.

You plug into the cable at the site (it's split so you can do internet and TV cable at the same time). They'll give you a kit to use at the outpost. I can't vouch for the reliability, though. DH had a work emergency and needed internet access last week. The first day they didn't have any of their kits available, so he was using dial-up at the outpost. The next day he got the kit, but the internet access went down and I don't think it was up until late Friday, so out most of the week. DH spent a lot of time at the outpost using the dial-up, unfortunately.

So are you saying that if you are getting cable, that the Internet is inculded in that price? Or do you have to pay extra on top of the cable fee?

You definitely have to pay an extra 10.00 a day for the internet service.

Just stayed at the cabins in March and internet was available there for $10 for 24 contiguous hours. Cable modem is already there, not unlike any hotel room with high speed internet. I had to connect to my home pc a couple of nights and found it quite fast and seemingly reliable... certainly beat the dialup that was the only option in the past....

I found the cost to be too high for the amount of time you will probably need to be online. You can still do dial-up if you just need to check messages, or send assignments etc. That cost is like maybe $1 or $1.50 for a local call if you have a service with a local number like aol.

You will still need one more piece of cable to run from the outlet to the splitter if you want to watch TV and be online at the same time. Internet access is free once you rent the cable modem.

That's all you should need. We just had our laptop and everything else we needed was in the case.

My coach has a place in a storage compartment where I plug in the cable and all of my TVs then have cable. Just how do I do that and plug in the modem? Is there a separate cable that has to come into the coach for the modem? Do I need an ethernet cable to go from my laptop to the modem or is that supplied? I leave Sunday so need to know ASAP. Thanks.

from what i was told at the front desk,$125.00 deposit and $9.95 for 24hrs not including tax.Also notice they have a WiFi in the 900 loop but can't get on it's locked.

Similar to NC, a year ago I stayed at FW, before we left home I signed up for data service from my cellphone carrier, Nextel. This made my phone a dailup modem. I bought a cable and downloaded some software. I could use it anywhere my cellphone worked. It wasn't fast but it did work. When I got home I cancelled the service. Two weeks cost about $26.00. BTW I now have a Broadband card like NC for my laptop ( Sprint ).
