How much does it cost for internet service on the ship? I know you can buy an unlimited package for some crazy amount of money, but I only want to check my e-mail every few days. Is there a per minute charge? How does it work? Thanks!

75 cents a minute. I hear the service is slow as it is satellite delivered.
I enjoyed my week without the internet and cell phone.

the unllimited package pricing is:

$39.99 on 3-night cruises
$39.99 on 4-night cruises
$89.99 on 7-night cruises
$129.99 on 10-night cruises

Otherwise the per minute charge is 75 cents.

If you are only going to check your e-mail a few times, this is an extreme expense! We teamed up with a couple of other cruisers and split the cost of unlimited internet access and it was much more affordable. My DD put it on her stateroom, my other DD, their cousin and we divvied the cost and gave her cash, we all were able to access even two of us at one time! We just had to share the same password. Guest relations had assured my DD that it was up to her if she wanted to share her password with other people. But really, if she hadn't had to submit papers and if I hadn't had to get information out to my students, a week without the internet would have been great. Send postcards to whoever you'd be e-mailing. That way they get a cool card and post stamp!

I can see how this is a crazy amount of money compared to how much you pay for a whole month of Internet access at home, but that is land based (a whole lot cheaper than satellites).
And for me, $40 works out to $10 a day on our upcoming 4 day cruise. Worth that amount to me to be able to keep in touch every day with our teenage DD who is staying at home. Plus, it's a whole lot cheaper and more reliable than trying to use our cell phones at $2 a minute!

Ironically, my mom just called and said she'd prefer EMAIL over a postcard that will get to her weeks after we get home. :rotfl2:
