We have just checked into a timeshare exchange in Baileys Harbor, WI. It's about 60 miles NE of Green Bay in Door County, WI.

The resort is beautiful. We have a 2BR- about 1400 sq feet, plus a garage! We have a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, washer/dryer, huge deck(s) and full kitchen. The place is beautiful.

I have usually been able to use netzero for my internet connections away from home, but last summer, I had to use Slingshot.com (a prepaid ISP) when at HH, but slingshot has folded. I found another prepaid ISP that supposedly had local connection here in WI, but the local # has been disconnected. I installed AOL, but there are no local access numbers available.

At a loss for what to do, I found a local ISP in the yellow pages and called. I explained that I will be here for a week and need access. I asked if I could pay for a month and get a local dialup connection. For $20.58 I now have local service. I plan to try this in HH next summer as well. it took them 25 minutes to set up my access and I'm off and running!

I also have another prepaid service with a 1-800 #, but it is $3.50 per hour.

Just a thought for those who need service while away from home!

Which property are you staying at Doc?

Thanks for the connection info....good to know.

Best regards,
Shontell

Great idea! Thanks!

Last year we used netzero at WDW and found it to be less than ideal...very difficult to get a connection and once we did it kept disconnecting us. At .35 per attempt..it added up! This year we may use one of our "free trial" offers on a national isp. The one we use at home is local (or at least regional) and doesn't have numbers in FL.

My DW forbids ANY computer equipment on vacations :D :D .

Glad that you'll be in contact; we'd miss you:( :( :( .......

We are staying at <a href="http://www.therushes.com">"The Rushes"</a>, which is a RCI "Gold Crown" resort.

It consists of 25 duplex style units around Kangaroo Lake- about 1/2 mile from Lake Michigan. There are several miles of cross-country ski trails in the resort (no snow here yet!), which can also be used as hiking trails in the non-snow season. It is supposed to get down to 22 tonight- with snow showers over the weekend.

The fall foliage is passed now, but the area is beautiful.

This dialup connection works well. I'll try this at HH next summer also!

I gave up on trying to get local ISP numbers all the time. Instead I got a data cable that hooks from the computer to the cell phone.

My cell plan includes 3000 night/weekend minutes a month. That's 50 hours, much more than I ever use so using it for a data connection is a good use of minutes.

This way I just connect to my local ISP right back in Indiana. Don't have to worry about long distance charges.

We just got back from a month long trip out West. Not counting hotels on the way out or back, we stayed in 6 different cities during that month. Would have hated to try to get local numbers each time. We need the computer for e-mails, paying bills, and of course to DIS.

The main drawback: 14.4 Kb. However for e-mails and accessing things like the DIS (which is mostly text once the initial graphics are loaded one time) it's not a big problem. Sure it's slower than 56 Kb, but not as noticeable as you'd think.

Anyway, that's another option.

Have a wonderful time up there Doc!! Glad you can stay in touch with us! :)

Thanks for the info, Doc!

After Slingshot "bit the dust," I signed up with Budget Dialup - they have a local number for both WDW and Vero - haven't checked on HH, yet...

Have a great time!

I have budget also, but they don't have a local # for HH or here in WI either. They do have a 1-800 #- but that costs $6.95 for 2 hours.

The local ISP will cost much less for this trip.

The cel phone option sounds like a good one. I'll have to check into that.

I'd be like the guy in the song where his wife said if he went fishing one more time, she'd leave him. I'm sure going to miss her.

I have Sprint/Earthlink DSL and they give you 20 hours a month free for dialup. You just go the the support page and put in a phone number for where you want to connect from and they will give you local number(s). I think many other national services will do this also.

Enjoy Door County. The resort sounds wonderful!

There are some wonderful look outs with views of Lake Michigan up there. If you have some time to drive around, check out the back roads which head towards the lake. The view looking down at Lake Michigan can be breath taking. We've seen huge fish swimming right along the shore line.

One of our favorites is up in the Gill's Rock area off Hwy 42. There is a park off of Door Bluff Park Road, way at the end called Deathdoor Bluff. I'll bet if you look at a local map or ask someone up there, you'd be able to find it if your interested.

Have a good trip!
