I know I will need internet access in DW, my cellphone co, Verizon, offers a deal for wireless broadband, and I am curious how the signal is there? How is it that you pay for wireless internet? can you get free access in the lobby? ANY feedback on internet access is appreciated!

Wireless internet access is available in the following areas:

Access is not free. It costs $4.99 for 60 minutes or $9.95 for 24 hours straight (eg 10am on day 1- 9:59 am on day 2). Payment is thru a 3rd party using a credit card using your computer when you try to connect.

In room is wired for concierge. There's no free wi-fi you can use with your phone. What I'd suggest doing is using your phone's ability to connect to the Verizon network, you generally pay per mb through Verizon. Just add it to your plan before your trip and if's not something you want to keep on it, then take it off the next month. Because a packaged price like that is cheaper paying per mb.
And if you are staying in a Disney resort, the last time I was there, it was 10$ or so to use the cable to connect to the net through your room per day, and there's a per hour charge too if you're going to be on less than an hour.

I have AT&T and pay 5$ once a month for 1mb of net access. Each page I open is just a few kb because I only use it for yahoo, and always open from last address, so I spend less time opening pages to get where I want. My phone doesn't have wi-fi abilities, so I can only use the net through AT&T network.

Good Evening,

I used the Verizon cell phone data at ASMo and it was great. So I would not even consider paying $10/day from WDW when you can get data from Verizon $20-$30 month.

My experience with WDW is that they will charge you for anything that they think people are willing to pay for.

Plus, I think that they don't want people sitting in their rooms on laptops. They want you out spending your dollars in the gift shops and restaurants. If they were to provide free wi-fi or ethernet connections. then there are more lost moneymaking opportunities than just the $10/24 hr. connection fee.

Wireless internet is free in the lobby & SAB areas at YC/BC. There isn't a charge to log on if you're sitting in the lobby which is why you'll find so many people camped out on laptops in the chairs now. I don't know if your phone would be able to access it but would think it likely.

DD20's computer would bring it up last summer but her security software wouldn't allow her to actually open/run it so I ended up paying to use the business center's computers to check my ebay sales/get shipping addresses for items sold while we were away - which was so NOT BUDGET I've been forbidden to ever do it again...:rolleyes1

If you're a DVC member staying at a DVC resort you don't have to pay for internet access in the room. It's not wireless but it works well enough for us!

I use my Verizon PDA smartphone to connect at WDW. I still haven't figured out how to go on vacation and NOT work at least an hour or two every day! :lmao: I haven't had issues with a signal at all on Verizon, even in a first floor room at Pop.

Verizon has excellent service in most of the World.
But definitely CALL customer service before you go or log on to "My Verizon" and check your features, because if you have no data features on your account you will end up paying $1.99 per mb.
Which can add up really fast.

You are much better off adding one of the data bundles they offer for the length of your trip and then just have it removed when you come back if you dont use data on your phone normally.:thumbsup2
