Hi all,

Could anyone tell me where we can access the Internet while staying at SSR?

Where would be the nearest place either at Disney or in the local area?

Also do DVC members get discount the the Downtown Disney shops if we show our vacation club cards when making a purchase?

Many thanks

You can get access in your room - it is $10 for 24 hours.

There are several discounts available - you will get a 'portable perks' leaflet detailing the current ones when you check in.

If you have an annual pass you get 10% discount at the World of Disney shop.

Sorry I didnt explain myself properly. I was really asking about an internet Cafe or such like as we will not be taking our lap top with us.

There is one at Lake Buena Vista outlets and there was one at Mercado but I am not sure if Mercado is still open. Think there are a few attached to some of the min golf places up Idrive.

You can access the internet at resorts with Business centres, such as Coronado Springs (where they hold conventions) and the deluxes I think. I haven't used this myself but the front desk at your resort will be happy to tell you which ones have the centres.

Disney's $10 per day charge is a bit of a con. Most decent hotels in Orlando already offer free wifi, but it seems that Disney need our money.

Anyway, you answer is Panera Bread, who provide free internet access at all their outlets.

There are various options, nearest probably being on Sand Lake Road towards LBV. Right beside a wonderful Barnes and Noble store too!

For Disney's $10, you can have a great meal, unlimited coffee and surf the net for as long as you want. If you really want to, you can even park outside and access their free Wifi;), but I do recommend the coffee and danish!

This is often debated on the US DVC boards. However, it is common amongst the top-end hotels to charge for internet access, so I don't accept your statement about 'most decent hotels .....'. We travel widely to hotels within the US and Europe, and always with a laptop but you try getting access free at Hilton or Marriott and you'll fail - you will get it free at their budget chains such as Hampton Inn or Courtyard respectively, but not at their flagship hotels.

Nevertheless, I think it's only a matter of time - I hope so anyway, before it's free to all.

It's changing all the time. Most Hilton hotels around Disney now offer complimentary WiFi, as do most of the smaller chains.

Disney will get round to it eventually I am sure - until then, there's always Panera!

:thumbsup2

Hi,
Hope the OP doesn't mind us "highjacking" this thread but if we compare like with like Marriott Vacation Club have free wired and wirless access in their properties. We attended one of the DVC annual member meetings and the subject of internet access was raised. The speaker agreed it was an issue but Disney were looking to recoup the cost of the instalation before reducing or eliminating the charge.

Mick.

I just took a look at the Hilton at Lake Buena Vista - a flagship resort - and under Guest Room Amenities, it has the following:

High-Speed Internet $9.95/day

I'm sure I read you thought I was 'behind the times' before you edited your post ;) And I do believe the text has been changed with your edit too - lol :thumbsup2

I was just being kind.:)

Any internet search will show that there are many hotels in the Disney area offering free internet access, including most of the Hilton brand.

It's a shame that Disney continue to charge what most others offer for free (see above re. Marriott) but hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.

The op was about internet cafes in the area, and I still recommend Panera Bread! :coffee:

I have never doubted that most of the hotels owned by the big brands in the Disney area offer free internet access - I know they do; I have used them myself. But as you know, I never claimed otherwise. Your pre-edited reply was to tell me I was behind the times and that they all offered free internet access. Presumably in the next few minutes you checked your facts and the word 'most' appeared :lmao:

Again, my post mentioned the flagship hotels of the large chains and since you mention Marriott, the Marriott World Centre, Orlando offers 2 packages for guests: $14.95 a day for business travellers and a leisure package which is $16.95 and includes free parking and a litre of water in your room in addition to internet access :rotfl2:

I'm no apologist for Disney or the way they charge as much as the market will stand; that's business. We have a choice in these matters. Enjoy your Panera Bread ;)

FWIW I believe that Disney outsourced this and is currently tied to a contract to the company who installed. I also think/hope it will be free eventually. :thumbsup2

You disagreed with my original point that most decent hotels already provide free WiFi. I am glad that you have now changed your mind.

Thanks. :goodvibes

Try to be fair, please.

These charges also include, I believe, unlimited telephone calls, local and national, as well as access to golf facilities.

In that light, they seem to be a reasonable deal.:rolleyes1

I stand by every word of my original statement above. The reason we are playing semantics now is because of your post in reply which you quickly needed to edit.

Of the 3 big hotel players, Hilton (Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites etc), Intercontinental/Crowne Plaza (Holiday Inn, Staybridge etc) and Marriott (Courtyard, Springhill etc) none of those give you free internet access at their top-end resorts in Orlando.

This is going nowhere so I'm out now, see you in Panera sometime maybe ;)
