Internet access AKV Concierge level

Found this: Internet Access

Doesn't seem to mesh with what was said here.

As for "free" WiFi - last year on the concierge level, it was free and I had no troubles accessing it. In previous years, I have used "fee based" WiFi in the lobby at the Contemporary. To gain access, you had to provide a credit card number.

Any confirmations about wi-fi in AKL and if it is free for DVC members?

RobPickles,
I was not able to access free wifi at the resort lobby this January. The access worked flawlessly this time in the room - and was free wired connection - so I didn't worry about it.

Maybe last year, they were testing things out. I found some wireless connections this year, but you needed a code or password - so could not make them work.

So - no free wireless that I could find at AKL this year.

We stayed at AKV Concierge level last year in a studio and I had issues getting internet in the room itself. Out in the lounge area, I was able to pick up the WiFi - so I did not worry about it and just used it there.

But, this trip (we arrive Jan. 7! Yeah!) - I have to conduct a "live" class online via web cam (yes - work while on vacation - but my online teaching pays for my trips - so I don't complain about taking a couple hours of my vacation time). Therefore, I really need to work in my room this time for a couple hours...since I really don't want my students to see the lovely eats in the concierge lounge! Plus - I think I might annoy a few guests. :)

Anyone have any recent experience with internet access in their room on the concierge level? Thanks!

If you like to be mobile in your room and want wireless that works as well as the wired service, get a wireless router ( not too expensive and can be used at home for other things ) you just plug in your router and ,bam , you have wireless internet.

I have a Mac and bought an Airport Express and use it when I go. I also use my Express when home as a wireless printer router.
Just a suggestion. Make sure you password protect your signal. People who don't allow others to connect to the internet using their network connection.
Have a great trip. Funny, I usually have to complete my online work for the classes I take. Maybe we can meet up and I can get credit

While a wireless router allows mobility, it doesn't work as well as a hard wired connection. The connection speed will be slower and Disney is slow already. Depending on the applications that you will be using, going wireless may cause you problems.

Last month at AKV Concierge we used wireless and wired connections. Skype reported a poor connection with the wireless connection and the video was choppy.

The only reason i wanted to connect wirelessly was so that I could use my Ipod Touch while sitting in the lounge. It is not that big of a deal but I may consider bringing a router, just to test out the signal stregth and capabilities.
