Hiya Guys

Does anyone know how long in advance you need to check in when boarding an internal flight in America.

We are flying Boston to Orlando this coming August on a 7am flight, will we need to be there 2 hours before?

We flew from Orlando to Vegas in 2011 and we were there 2.5 hours before boarding. We had to drop back the rental car so we wanted to give ourselves plenty of time even though dropping back the car only took a minute!

Min 90 mins before if checking luggage (60 if not) is what's usually suggested.
2 hours before seems sensible.

Check with your airline about when you can last check in if you want to leave it as late as possible - most say a minimum of 30 mins before to issue boarding passes, 60 mins prior is usually when they stop accepting bags.

The absolute minimum for a domestic flight is 30 minutes. This means that if you're not checked in 30 minutes before departure time, you will be denied boarding

At major airports this limit is extended to 45 minutes. After this limit you will not be allowed to check bags and you'll be denied boarding

some airlines will extend this to 60 minutes. So you need to check on the airline's website.

Note that these are the "limits" so you need to make sure that you have enough time to get checked in. And often, the closer to the "cut off" time, the bigger the crowd at check in.

I would not dare to come in later than twice the time limit (90 to 120 minutes)

For international flights, that's 3 hours

It best to check with your airline. Most airline ticket counters and security don't open till 6:00 a.m. Since your flight is at 7;00 you may not want to be standing for several hours waiting for the counters to open.

I usually fly Southwest airline and they don't open the counters till 6:00 a.m.
