Hello

Need to fly Vegas to San Diego to pick up the wonder (from the UK). Are there any flights that include hold luggage. If not which are the cheapest for the luggage charge

With say delta or spirit (just ones I have seen) are you better booking as soon as out (if so how many months before do they come out) or waiting until nearer the flight date

Thank you

Southwest Airlines allows 2 complimentary checked bags per person. That's the airline I recommend. Spirit should be avoided.

Thank you I have looked and flights for March but not October so assume a waiting game?

Yes, it'll be a while. On February 15th, Southwest will open up their schedule to October 1st. So maybe mid-March or April they'll open up the rest of October.

We fly Southwest all the time and love it. If you've never flown Southwest, you'll want to be aware that they have 'open seating'. You get assigned a boarding number based on when you do the online check in (up to 24 hrs before your flight.) If you don't care where you end up sitting--it's fine to do it that way. With our family of 4, we like to sit near each other--so we spend the extra $15/person/flight to get 'Early Bird checkin" which normally gets us in the "A" boarding group, or at worst "B 1-30" boarding group. Southwest will board the people who need extra help first (those that have a blue slip), then A 1-15 (business class), then the rest of the A's. At that point they'll board families with kids 6 and under. Then the B's, and then the C's.

Southwest is my recommendation.

Sometimes they have sales. Sign up with them. Also, as soon as the October dates are released, they have a "Wanna Get Away" that is their cheapest fare. If the fare goes down after you have bought it, they issue refunds....usually in the form of credits.

Please verify, but I don't think Southwest has free luggage for international flights. I remember being charged at least $25 for first checked bag and my carry-on had size and weight restriction. I've looked and looked on SWA website and can't find the international baggage fee. Best of luck in your travels.

I found this information about international baggage:

If any portion of your itinerary contains an international flight and you plan to check luggage, you will be required to do so at the Southwest Airlines Ticket Counter upon arrival at the airport. You cannot checkin or check luggage at the curbside if traveling on an international itinerary. Connecting passengers must claim all luggage, regardless of final destination, upon arrival in the U.S. After clearing Customs, connecting passengers will then be required to re-check all checked luggage with a Southwest Airlines Customer Service Agent before proceeding to connecting flight(s).

Also, please note that you cannot check luggage at the curbside with a SkyCap if any portion of your itinerary includes an international flight. You must visit the Southwest Airlines Ticket Counter.

Your carryon must be 10 x 16 x 24 inches or smaller. If your carryon does not fit the dimensions above, we will be forced to check it at the gate. It will be safely stowed below the aircraft for the duration of your flight, and you will pick it up at baggage claim, not the gate, upon arrival to your final destination. Assistive devices and strollers may be claimed at the gate/jetbridge.

Maybe I read it wrong, but my understanding was the OP was already going to be in the States and taking a flight from Vegas to San Diego. I think the information you posted would only apply if the flight originated or terminated outside the US and the LAS to SAN flight was just one leg of the larger itinerary. From the way the question is worded, it appears the LAS to SAN flight is separate from the international travel.

Don't just look for airlines that have free checked luggage. You have to compare the final cost of the trip (ie: airfare + checked bag fees + other fees). Sometimes you might even come out ahead after tacking on all the fees.

I've flown southwest international. They did not charge baggage fees.

For this short flight, you are only looking at $96/person with 2 bags on Southwest. $50 if you are willing to take the 6:30 am flight. I wouldn’t waste too much time checking a bunch of other airlines that will charge you for bags.
