My wife brought this up the other day. With the economy still down, do you think DVC would ever run a "special"? Like 10 points off for a week or something like that? It could be the thing to get a few more DVC members to head on down for a vacation. And every little bit of extra money they spent would be more than Disney had. Just an off the wall thought.......

I doubt it. If rooms are empty at 30 days out DVC can rent for cash rates...
Most of their incentives will probably be for new sales, not incentives to get people to use their timeshares.... Would be nice though! A better idea would be discounts on tickets or dining, that's what's keeping us from visiting more often.

that would be illegal, i believe. it's a timeshare. if you arbitrarily reduce the cost of a week without increasing the point cost of another week in the year, i'm pretty sure you've just oversold the resort.

I don't think they can do that. It would throw off the balance of the DVC system. More points would be available than they have rooms.

What they could do is offer a reduced price ticket deal or dining discounts. I don't think they can do any type of points discounts or use points for anything other than rooms.

I am not going this year because I just can't swing the tickets. SO, if they offered a deal on tickets, we'd go faster than if they just discounted the point cost anyway.

Considering that they're raising the price on AKV and the min. add-on for BLT tomorrow...no. Even if they COULD they wouldn't.

(PS) I agree that an even sweeter deal on tickets or AP's would nice tho...even tho our accomodations are covered with DVC getting there and park tickets are not.

They can not legally discount the points as a special.

Disney can offer great ticket discounts, or even free AP's for a year. That would go along way to encourage DVC trip by its members.

I see everyones point. Well, maybe tickets or the DDP could be offerred to DVC members at a huge discount. We can only hope....

Sadly, Disney will not do any of the above. Why should they? They have are money for the DVC points. We will be using the timeshares regardless of the incentives, if not we will rent them or give them to someone else. Either way, Disney will win. The DVC resorts run at about 95-99% occupancy all year, every week. Its the hotels that are suffering, so there is not a need to fix DVC. Hence the really big price increase for AKV.
