This may have been posted but it was news to me...
Apparently on July 23rd there was a change in fees the government is collecting on domestic air travel. I had no idea of this development...but today I was doing my usual check on our flights for our Nov. trip to Orlando and saw that the pricing looked different. The government taxes for the flights were $7 a person per flight segment instead of the $20 pp per segment that I paid when I originally purchased the tickets in May! Thus making my tickets cheaper!! I called Southwest to find out what was going on...and the Customer service rep told me that there was a fee change and that I could ask for a refund from the IRS when I did my taxes this year!
Like that would happen!! After I hung up - I decided to find out what would happen if I changed one of my flights - I had already disliked our flight home, so I put in a change reservation and voila the taxes for segments (both segments!!) changed to the $7 and I changed my flights!!!! The new flight was a little more expensive then our original flight but with the credit from all the extra taxes - I only had to pay $37 total for the three tickets and now we are leaving Orlando at 7:50pm instead of 9:05am! Just wanted to let others know in case you too can take advantage of this change!
