a friend of mine sent this to me:

Here is a documentary that is being released in New York just in time for GOP Convention. I wonder how many republicans are going to see it. See http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/08/23/politics2057EDT0728.DTL

John Kerry's former crew mates vouch for his Vietnam war heroics in a documentary being released in the midst of a campaign debate about his actions as a swift boat skipper.

"Brothers in Arms," a first film by journalist Paul Alexander, features Kerry and four men who served with him on Patrol Craft 94, the last of three boats he commanded during the war and the one from which he won the Silver Star for chasing down and killing a combatant who threatened his crew with a rocket….

In "Brothers in Arms," opening at a New York theater on Friday just days before the Republican National Convention starts in the city, Kerry's mates relate the familiar story of their commander fearlessly ordering their boat to be beached in the thick of an enemy outpost, and hunting down a man who intended to fire a rocket at them. They also recount an ambush during which Kerry and his crew rescued survivors of another patrol boat that hit a mine.

Alexander's previous work includes a behind-the-scenes account of Kerry's run for the White House and biographies of Sen. John McCain and cultural icons James Dean and Sylvia Plath. He said he interviewed the crew over the last 18 months, beginning the project well before Kerry was a sure bet to become the presidential nominee.

In the film, Kerry and crew mates David Alston, Mike Medeiros, Del Sandusky and Gene Thorson talk about the bond they formed under fire and their lives since the war. "If anyone knows the truth of what happened to John Kerry in Vietnam, they do," he said. "Brothers in Arms" is their story."

I heard that on the news this morning. I'm glad. Not that people will some believe them no matter what they say  , they won't even believe official military documents, but I'm glad.

You know, I have no idea what happened in Vietnam with Senator Kerry. I would assume he d=served honorably and was honorably discharged.

I am getting tired of all the talk about something that happened 30-something years ago. Let's get some information on more recent decisions, votes, activities etc.

You mean I have to PAY to see this "documentary?" LOL!

IMHO, he's handling this entire situation very badly. All of Kerry's protesting is making him look a bit foolish. Why doesn't he just take the high road and drop it? Is this constant "I'm right, they're lying" attitude what we can expect from him if he's elected President?

I want to hear about the issues we're facing today. It's something I've heard very little about from the Senator. I don't care what happened 30 years ago. Frankly, I'm sick of hearing about it .

Sort of hard to take the high road and drop if your opposition won't drop don't you think?

See also President Bush and his problems with his war record...and I'm not bringing that up to debate it only to make a point. Bush's opponents successfully posted a question mark about his Vietnam service by being persistant about it. Bush supporters are now attempting to return the favor. If Kerry let it be his opposition would succeed in leaving the impression they are attempting to leave.

Run on the issues? That's a novel idea. Candidates will return to running on the issues when the public votes for someone who only ran on the issues.

No. It's not at all difficult. The story gets told. Everyone is all a-twitter for a week. The story dies down. Everyone gets on with their campaigns.

Wouldn't it be great?

I disagree here. The Swiftvets are doing this because Kerry's the Dem nominee, they're not doing it FOR Bush.

Although Bush does, of course, benefit from their 30+ year loathing of John Kerry.
