Local news last night reported on a State of California report on tourism that showed California has had 71.x million (can't remember the number after the decimal) visitors this year. This figure is actually UP from last year, though they didn't say by how much. Some of the credit was given to the media campaign that featured a commercial with famous California residents, including Eisner and Jack Nicholson.
I thought this of note because of Disney's self-reported continued under-performance compared to last year, and their insistence that this is all economy/tourism related.
I also again bring up an Orange County (CA) report that was cited on the Disney earnings call that said Orange County tourism was up 4% this year.
Without more detailed info, these numbers cannot be used as absolute proof that at least part of Disney's theme park problems are self-caused. However, its definitely another indication that something besides a sluggish economy is at work.
