Well, in English class today, we were discussing the novel "The Once and Future King" (The Sword and the Stone) Well, someone brought up the movie that Disney made of the Sword in the Stone. Well that broght on an interesting debate and I would like to talk about it here if anyone is interested.

My english teacher says that today's Disney films are manipulative. They are just old remakes and have none to a minor point to it... or something. The old classics have the life lessons. We started talking about the good classics like Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp. (Lady and the Tramp being a majority of my classes favorite. My english teacher also admires Lady and the Tramp)

Why do you think today's Disney's films are manipulative and not as good as the older animated ones?

If the older ones are more popular, why won't Disney make more of those?

Why is Lady and the Tramp such a big hit in my class? (Nothing against it here, I absolutly adore that movie, and thought the second Lady and the Tramp was unessasary.)

What are some morals and themes in some of the older Disney films?

Just wondering. :scratchin If you guys have a good point, disagree, agree, or a good question, feel free to add!

I <3 my english class :)

Hmmm. While many of today's Disney movies aren't as good as the old ones, (and when I say old I mean before 2000, this way I can include all the 90s musicals), I like many of the recent ones. The Pixar movies were great, and I liked all four Lilo and Stitch movies.

The best recent one was the Three Musketeers. It had the feel of a classic, starring Mickey and Friends.

The WORST Disney movies are the sequels though, with the exceptions of Lilo and Stitch and Toy Story 2. All the other sequels are just bad though.

I saw the three musketeers. I thought that was extremely cute and I loved it. Pixar's are good too. I forgot about those.

And I have to say, they should quit making sequals, and start making new movies.

Because most of the classics were made from the 40's to the 90's. They were big into morals and fuzzy happiness. Today, people value humor (mostly dirty humor) and anything that's interesting. Back in the 90's your parents would have plugged your ears through minor cussing, but today we hardly censor anything.

It's hard to come up with something new, timely but as good as a classic. There is a reason why a movie is a classic, you can't really outdo it. Another reason is that most of those classics were fairytales written by the Grimm Brothers or classic stories. A lot of those plots were not come up with by Disney, Disney just made it their own. There are hardly any stories left unless Disney wants to try their hand at Thumbelina.

It's has DOGS in it. I mean, Disney got a lot of money off of talking animals. People love dogs, it's the favored animal besides cats. And they love it even more when they talk, because it's and interesting story with a cute animal starring in it. It's a love story, and I'm not entirely sure why. It really just depends on what you grew up on.

What are some morals and themes in some of the older Disney films?
Honesty
Bravery
Love
Friends
Being nice
etc.
These are morals, characterisitics and such. Like I said, back in the day, people believe in teaching their kids to behave and be happy. Nowadays, I hear 8 year olds shouting cusses that I wouldn't even say under my breath. And they're shouting it.
