Interesting check-in glitch with split stay

We stayed at Jambo in a value studio for two nights. We received a voice mail that we were able to use express check out and did not need to go to the desk to manually check out.

When we got to our next resort, the CM could cut room keys for my family, but was able to cut them for the others in our group. He had to call someone who had him manually check us out of AKV, and then he had no trouble. We are moving back to AKV later this week, so he told me to make sure we check out of BLT manually.

Perhaps the system doesn't like having the same person checked in to two different locations at the same time. They should have an online or on TV check-out process to make this easier. Plus, that would then let housekeeping know that the room is ready to clean.

Those with up-coming split stays may want to ask about this at check-in.

Maybe this is only an AKV problem? We left BWV last month (without checking out, just left), and went immediately to BLT and checked in with no problems. We were able to get keys at BLT for everyone in our party.

I have had more problems at AKV then at all other DVC properties combined - that is why it wouldn't surprise me if that is an internal AKV problem.

Nope, not AKV. I've done split stays with AKV as the first part, and always used express check out. Most of my split stays have been AKV/BCV, with either one first, depending on how I feel the day I book which is first that trip. Never had any kind of problem.

The CM gave me the impression that this had something to do with the MDE stuff. He was very pleasant about it, and everything worked out fine. I usually stop at the desk to let them know we are out of the room, but I didn't do that this time. It seems like it would be to their advantage to have some kind of MDE electronic check-out that could be done from any device through one's MDE account. I'm tempted to do express check-out later this week just to see what happens when we get back to AKV.

AKV is our home resort and this statement is SO TRUE for me. Every single stay, I've had issues at check in. Once they claimed MS cancelled my ressie (not true), another time I had to move in the middle of a non-split stay (assigner could not find me the same room :confused3). During the dining segmenting debacle I ended up with no joke, 4 sets of keys for a 4 night stay for no reason other than they couldn't key it correctly.

So yea, wouldn't be surprised if this was a strictly AKV issue. Love the resort, hate the reception desk.

It isnt a glitch it is a new process. You have to be fully checked out of your old resort before you can check in to your new one. Not sure why they changed it but the days of leaving the kids in bed while you go check in to your next resort are over.

I had something similiar checking into BLT after POR..so it not just AKV.

If this is true, sounds like they are requiring this because of the MagicBands.

Wow! I feel so fortunate now that in my many stays there, I've never had a problem there. I did get locked out of my room once, but that was only because idiot me went out to the ice machine without my room key. Having to move during a stay, when it's their fault not yours, would p*** me off.

Good to know...I wonder if this is why I can't check in online for both of my upcoming BWV stays..one room is in my name and the other in my daughters... they both show up on my MDE site, but it won't let me do online check in because she is lead guest.

The only reason I would have liked to do online for both is that we are hoping to get the rooms near each other....

I did online check-in for our first two nights at AKV. That was around the 60 day mark, so about two months ago. I started the process for our BLT stay, but aborted since I could not designate who could have charging on the room key. It defaults to everyone. But, when I did check-in at BLT, the CM noted that we did online check-in despite aborting. I guess they still have some things to work out.

we also had problems this past May. The CM said it was a glitch in the new system. We were at AKV and moved to BWV and had to be manually checked out of our AKV room, but we had dining credits which got locked out and we didn't realize it until we tried to use them. The CMs at BWV really helped us out and could see the credits, but saw that our "folder" was closed in order to check us into BWV. The CMs told us to just charge our meals and come back and they would make the adjustments and remove the charges. It was only for 1 day because the credits were for our AKV stay, but it was a PITA. Then we moved to BLT and it went downhill then. Seems the family that had our room before us was using their credits, so in order for them not to have their folder closed, they could not cut us room keys so we had to be escorted to our room everytime we needed to get in the first day, which was as late as 10:00PM before we finally got our own keys. Since we were not doing the dining plan on that part of the stay, it was not an issue. When we get back in October, I sure hope they get it worked out, but only one move for us. We go to Vero for the first 3 nights then check in at BWV for 14 nights.

Ok, that makes sense on one level, and I wonder if that happened to me at BLT, but

:rolleyes1 Holy Batman who missed that customer requirement :confused3 you cannot check into your room until the previous occupant uses their dining credits, that expire on Midnight when you check out !?!

This is ridiculous. You know honestly, I feel like I cut DVC a lot of slack for being a timeshare. I am not one of those people who calls the manager and asks for things, and we've had plenty of things go wrong during our stays. I put up with the glitchy nonsense b/c I realize it's a timeshare, their computers always have issues and really, what else would you do :confused3 But if this happened to me at a "real" hotel that I was paying $$$ for, I'd ask for compensation. IMO, if you aren't allowed to have keys to access your own room to freely come & go, then they haven't provided you with the room that you've paid for.

The issue has nothing to do with DVC as they don't control the front desk software.

This isn't a DVC issue the hotels have the same new policy.

there is definitely something wrong there. So if the people checking out had the dining plan (so they couldn't close them out), and you had the dining plan (and they couldn't give you keys since the previous folks still had credits) how could you use YOUR dining credits?

I have avoided online checkin because of this same issue. I did it the last time we went and when we checked in the CM asked if I wanted the kids to have charging privileges. I did for DS but not DD. He printed DD a new card without any problems.

Update on AKV check-in:

I did not formally check out at BLT; I let the express checkout be our only checkout. When we got to Kidani yesterday @ 3PM, they had no trouble checking us in, as had happened at BLT on Saturday. I did not do online check in for this part of the stay. Curiously, I had to enter my PIN for using room charges, which I have not needed to do since Dec 2012.

With the Jambo to BLT part of the stay, we checked in at BLT at 8:00 AM. Perhaps the express checkout system does not process the actual checkout until 11AM, which may have lead to the issue when we arrived at BLT so early on our check in day.
