Okay. Let me state I'm not making fun of anybody. I consider myself a humorous person and am the first one to laugh at myself in certain situations.

I was reading a Carnival cruise 'unofficial' (such as this DISboard) message board and saw a thread..'What have you done' Alcohol.

How fortunate everyone is here, that DCL allows people to bring their own alcohol on board! The people on these threads were trading tips on how to smuggle it. I caught myself laughing! One man was saying how he packs bourbon is his Listerine bottle and his wife brings sky vodka in her water bottle. Another man mentioned how he brings vodka (spiked w/blue food color) in his Scope bottle. But I guess what got me laughing was the debates and hostile words they began hurling at one another over the ethics of smuggling alcohol on board. (Thank you to all of our moderators who help keep the civil tones here.) I all of the sudden envisioned what it would be like to have all of these people in one room. A loud bar w/a few uh, heavily intoxicated people, pulling listerine bottles out of their jackets?:hyper: I should not really be laughing at them. I just think it's sad that other cruise lines are not as generous as DCL w/their alcohol policies, and how people will go to desperate measures to save on drink costs. I'm laughing too, because, I've been caught bringing my own soft drinks to movie theatres.

Sounds pretty entertaining. Can you give the link for that website?

You know, all Carnival has to do is increase their room rates to compensate for lost alcohol sales & then they can loosen up their policy about bringing you're own onboard. ;)

This is very funny stuff--and true. When we were on the golden princess and stopped in st. thomas i bought some liqupr tp bring home. The ship's crew collects it as you embark and they give it back to you on the last night of the cruise. I was on linein the liquor store and a couple ahead of me were making their plans to pour their booze into the empty water bottles she had in her bag.

Smuggling alcohol in a Listerine bottle -- that's the kind of thing you look for on a high school band trip, not a bunch of adults going on a cruise!

I've never sailed on Carnival because of its reputation for just this kind of thing. I have the impression that the boat is full of spring break frat boys -- and this post seems to reinforce that idea!

In 2000 my family including myself, and 7 adults all over 21 sailed on the Carnival Destiny out of Puerto Rico. Right at the port of embarkation, there is a duty free liquor store, and we were allowed to buy and bring aboard the wine that we wanted, as long as it was on our first trip on board, that is on check-in. We did not have to smuggle, or lie. We were able to bring it to our staterooms and use it on the cruise. At any other time, even if you went ashore right after you checked in, any liquor brought aboard had to be held and then delivered to you at the end of the cruise.

It was a great cruise probably the best family vacation we've ever had. My dear DinL asked if we were taking this Disney Cruise to check it out before inviting the family to join us on another one, well, that's an idea!

I didn't know that there was a Carnival board like this, live and learn!

I sailed on Carnival way back in the 80's and it was definitely a PARTY boat. I will never go on a Carnival cruise again. It was like a BAD high school dance with people throwing up in the hallways, etc. I changed to RCCL and liked it MUCH better.
