Hi! I was just wanting some information about renting points. I've read all the FAQ's and am pretty sure I know what's going on, so now I'd like some specifics.

I am interested in a one and two bedroom villa at either BCV or BWV (both villas would need to be in the same resort) for a large family trip. Right now I actually have a reservation with Disney for a 2 bedroom at BCV and I think the total is about $4300 with tax. Many people have told me that it might be more economical to rent points instead of paying rack rates through Disney.

According to the points calculator I would need 390 for the BCV 2 bedroom, 300 for the 1 bedroom, 338 for the BW 2 bedroom, and 246 for the one bedroom.

Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

By the point totals you posted, it appears that you are planning on getting standard view rooms at BWV. That's not at all likely - standard view rooms book up very quickly. They are usually taken by BWV owners early in the reservation window.

You should plan on getting a preferred view for the BWV rooms. They will cost the same as the BCV.

FWIW, if you are talking about next month, there may not be any availability at either resort.

Best wishes -

You could use that $4300 as a down payment for your own DVC membership. Then bank your 2004 points, use the 2005 points and borrow the 2006 points and get whatever you need.

Renting will probably cost less than the rate you currently have. The rent/trade board is a good place to seek the points you need.

Good luck and in any event enjoy the BCV!

I think if I was in your shoes I would keep your reservation from Disney. The going price per point to rent is $10-11 to make the total for the 2 bdrm $3900 not too far off from the $4300 you got from Disney. I'm not sure the $400 is worth the risk and restrictions that renting points would contain, maybe if it was a little bit more of a difference?!? (But I just got done reading 'a sad story'!)

$4000 is a lot of clams. The poster who suggested that you use it as a down payment on membership is absolutely right. It can either disappear in a single trip, or constitute 25% of your membership purchase for the next 38 or 50 years of vacations!
