Ok - I had an idea - let me know what you all think!

I added scraps to our sorted (by color) bags this morning and thought "Wouldn't it be fun to have a 12x12 page swap made only from scraps from our collections?" We've got some great paper in our box, but not enough to do a traditional swap with any of it.

Each page would be different - no two would be alike because of the scrap bits we all have. You could use a "new" 12x12 piece as your base paper, but everything else would have to come from your scrap stash. Photo mats, tags, journal boxes, title topper/space, etc. would be options, but perhaps not include other embellishments. The recipient could add those as she needs/wants.

Participants could sign up for as many pages as each wants, and each would get the same number of pages back - and of course, none of your own. I'd divide them up so each person gets pages from as many other participants as possible.

Z2H and I were thinking that perhaps this could be its own swap or I could hostess it as piggy-backed onto her color swap later this year. It might be cheap or free to add these pages if you're already participating in that?

I'll post this here and in other threads to get feedback from as many folks as possible.

Thanks!
Pam

Oh my that was funny!

You act like we are all capable of organization. :lmao:

Okay, I think the others are. Me however, I'm hopeless. I have tons and I mean tons of scrap paper. Unfortunately they are either in a huge shopping bag or the few that I sorted last year, in baggies. Somewhere. :rotfl2:

It IS a good way to use up scraps. I'm pretty sure I would cheat and use my stash instead of scraps. :thumbsup2

This sounds interesting! I have a box full and a 2 gallon bag of bits from the FEs! and this is left over after the donation to the preschool!

I think it would only work if we were less rigid on sizes - many of my scraps are left over from cutting for e.g. colour swaps (lots of 5x5 squares, for example;) ) We'd have to make it a bit free and easy on things like journalling spots and photo mats or I would be cutting up new stuff;)

Thanks, everyone!

I was thinking about not recommending any specific sizes or numbers of photo mats - for the same reasons, you mention, Mazda. I don't want people having to buy ANYTHING new. Unless they want to...cheater wheaters, and you know who you are...!...but to me, the challenge and the fun will be in creating out of what you already have. The beauty will be that each page will be VERY different. It seems that all of the experienced swappers here who might participate would create attractive, balanced, and useful pages - I have no worries about that.

It seems to make the most sense just to make this a group within Z2Hs Color Swap this summer (she's willing and will play, too). If you send in five 12x12 pages, you'll get five (other) 12 x12 pages back, if you send in ten, you'll get ten back...etc. You decide the level of your participation - based upon the level of scraps you're sitting on!

I looked around online to see if anyone had organized a swap like this before. All that I could find were references to where swappers merely put an envelope of nice paper scraps together and mailed the envelopes to each other. To me, this doesn't sound like a lot of fun for scrappers, but maybe works well for card-making folks...? Again, for me, the fun is in the uniqueness and usefulness of the page creations.

To be honest, part of the idea came to me when I was looking at the sketches AWM posted for her sketch swap. These are the types of layouts that seem ideal (or adapted with some alterations) for scrap swap pages.

I had the same concern that Mazda mentioned where many of my scraps aren't big enough to do the typical size mats and such. I have bunches of scraps and think without the size concerns this would be a fun one to do and I like the way you said you'd set it up where you sign up for a certain number of pages and that's how many you'd get back (that could be a sorting nightmare for you, though). I like it and I'll join!

I think the sign ups are the 2nd of June, right? If they are any later than the 7th I will need a sign up buddy because we leave on the 8th. But I know you will look out for me.:goodvibes

You can come over and sign on from my house if they're later:thumbsup2:banana:

If we don't stick to the "regular" rules, I may play. Most of my scraps are leftovers from those "regular" rules ;)

Mine too! And funnily enough, my photos are almost never 4x6 because Snapfish print digitals as 4 x 5.3 (or something weird) and I'm often cropping bits off:rolleyes1 So whatever size photo space I bet I could use it. Same with toppers, journal spots and so on.

Those Snapfish photos are a weird size. They do look a little funny on the normal sized mats. I tend to journal a little bit next to the photo so it doesn't look as odd.

I'd probably play since I wouldn't have to pay for postage. God knows I have enough scraps to make about 100 pages. I am going to start scrapping some of my childhood pages, which are all sorts of weird sizes so this may work out for some of those.
