Hi all! With the go ahead from the Swap Goddess :worship: I am posting an interest thread for a Disney Surprise Swap. These are my favorite swaps - better than Christmas morning. :cloud9:

For the newbies, a surprise swap is a swap where you sign up for a group - with or without a theme - and make any element to fulfill the theme. You don't post your element choice or your specific-theme, and you don't post any photos of your items because it's a suprise to everyone in your groups.

Sign-ups: April 13 at 11 AM EST, Due Date: June 27

This is a Disney Surprise Swap that includes some specific themes, as well as general Disney ones. If you select a group in the themed ones, please make items that could clearly be used within that theme – for example, if you select AK theme, you could make anything related an animal, the park in general, or a ride/show/land, but not a paper piecing of Mickey in his traditional red shorts because in AK he meets in his safari/camp gear. The same goes for the season groups, please make things that are specific to either the holiday or the season.

If you are new to swapping with us, I will not limit your groups – but please only sign-up for what you can complete by the mail date, also consider any other swaps you have joined.

Remember – this is a surprise swap – you don’t have to tell me the element. You may use up your stash for this swap. You may make as many different items you wish but only as many as six of each item. However, each element should be embellished to sufficient quality.

For ideas or to see the most recent Surprise Swap, see here - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2008627. The Surprise Swap before that is here - http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1832962.

1. Pick the spots in the groups you would like. For each spot you choose, you are required to make 1 element from the list below for each person in your group. There may be different numbers of people per group so please be sure to double check your amounts once sign-ups are closed.

2. PM me with your DIS name, name, mailing address, email address, and phone numbers. Email and phone numbers will only be used to follow up if I have not heard from you.

3. If you are unable to complete your groups, please ask for an angel as soon as possible. I will be requiring the following check-in dates.

• April 17
• May 7
• June 4
• Mail by June 20

I sent back :moped:
you have :cheer2:

If I have not heard from you within 2 days of the check-in date, a pm/e-mail will be sent. If I still do not hear from you within 48 hours of that, I will ask for an angel. If you will be away during a check-in, please let me know. Please post your status on the Progress thread, which will be posted after sign-ups are closed.

4. Packing Instructions: use a Ziploc bag (snack/sandwich/quart) for each person and put everything for that person into their bag. Please label each individual bag with your DIS name, real name and group (see below) – do not put the recipient’s name on the bag/label. Enclose these individual bags into a larger (no smaller than gallon size) Ziploc bag. Please use a gallon size bag for this even if your items may fit in a quart sized bag. Others’ items may not fit in the quart size. Label the gallon sized bag with your name, DIS name, and group. What you send to me MUST fit and lock into the baggie. No pieces should be sticking out of the baggie – if it does, please use a larger Ziploc bag for those elements.

The labels for each bag should look like this:

Kristy Siegel
Group B1

5. Mailing Instructions: mail in a priority envelope or box and include $4.95 (envelope) or $10.35 (box) for return postage (stamps, cash, check) to return your items. If you want your items shipped back to you with delivery confirmation, please include the $.65, and you must include a filled out DC slip. Please do not send metered or click-it/ship-it postage – some hostesses have had issues with these. You must include a return address label -- either a USPS priority mail label that you have addressed, or the little ones you would put on envelope. (This cuts down on writing/mailing errors.)

6. Check the progress thread for your status - it will be updated with ship info and received info.

7. PM me if you have problems and need to drop out or if an emergency happens (we all know things happen beyond our control sometimes), let me know so we can make arrangements for an angel or other help if needed.

8. HAVE FUN!! And don’t forget to not post pictures, it’s a secret!

Here are the element choices - you will make one element for each group member, although some elements require more items to be considered as one element:
Element list (borrowed from Hopemax)

Note: Please no handwritten items. Embellished can mean: stickers, stickles, flock, ink, chalk, brads, Primas, eyelets, ribbon/fiber, stickles, sewing, tearing, clipart, additional layers of paper beyond double mats (if it would look weird trying to fit in another embellishment). Specialty paper, such as embossed, glitter, Bling will be considered an embellishment. If you can think of no way to embellish your item, without it looking weird, you can provide an embellishment not attached to your item, such as a Cricut icon cutout, or a set of 4 brads/eyelets, a yard of ribbon/fiber, etc.

One Element Is One from this list:

* Topper/Title/Signage: Double Matted, Embellished. Standard size in the past has been 2 x 8, so it would fit in books of different sizes. However, in the hostess pow wow, it was decided that we actually would like longer toppers to fit the width of a 12x12 page. I wouldn’t go any larger than 11” so if someone has an 8.5 x 11” book, the topper can be used as a border. You could also make individual letters, but they must be shadowed and a minimum of 1.5” tall. If you want to do something that is 3 x7, or 4x4, or running in two directions, or paper pieced that is fine too. Paper pieced titles don’t have to be double-matted.

* Library Pocket w/ Tag: Embellished. Tag should be double matted, with ribbon or eyelet.

* Layered Die-Cuts: To accommodate the Cricut cutouts that aren’t really detailed enough to be considered a paper piecing. Make THREE 3” pieces. If they are smaller than 3” make more; use your best judgement. Try to shadow and embellish if able.

* Paper Piecing: 4” minimum in one direction (H or W).

* License Plate: Double matted, embellished. Please be creative

* Shaker box: Be Creative

* Lyric/Quote/Poem: Double Matted + layer with poem/lyric/quote. Top Layer should be 3x3 minimum. Embellished.

* Pair of Borders: 12” in length. Double Matted. Embellished.

* Altered Letter: Double matted, 4” minimum height. Embellished.

* Matchbook: Embellished, Be Creative, don't forget to include a blank page inside

* ATC (Artist Trading Card): 2.5" x 3.5", heavy/thick cardstock. Embellished 3 ways.

* Jar of Whimsy Baggie: Snack size bag filled (stuffed) with fibers, ribbon, brads, eyelets, buttons, chipboard, stickers, small cardstock pieces, etc. to match your topic.

Or TWO from this list (you can mix & match)
* Frame: Double matted, embellished. Should be large enough to hold a 4x6 photo. Sizzix frames are okay even though they are smaller.

* Photomat/Large Box: Double matted, embellished. Should be large enough to hold a 4x6 photo, or may be used as a journaling box

* Two Small Boxes: To be used as either small photo mats or journaling spaces. Consider sizes such as for holding a 3x4, 4x4, 3x4 photo. Double matted, embellished. If you are thinking journal boxes, other shapes work well too.

* Tag: Double matted, embellished. Approximately 2x3 or 3x4 size, but does not have to be a rectangle. Circles, ovals, diamonds, squares work well too.

* Two Embellished Shapes/Squares: Double matted, embellished

* Slide Mount: Embellished

* Mini File Folder: Embellished

NOTE: Purchased items, such as Jolee's, cannot be used as an element choice for the groups - only for the specific group (L) - because some swappers prefer to not receive purchased items in exchange for items they created/crafted. So if you have some purchased items that you would like to include in this swap, please sign up for Group L.

:thumbsup2 I like your groupings. A little bit more specific surprise swap looks fun.

I sure would be interested. The seasonal and park specific surprises look like a great idea! A June due date is good for me too.

Thanks!

This looks fun! I am so swamped right now with real life stuff...I hope I can fit this in. I especially like the Disney colors, Disney holiday and parks groups.

I love these categories -- looks like lots of fun!

So is it one or two elements that will be made for each category? I was reading it as one, but just wanted to make sure!

Thx!

Me likey! You know I'm going to ask if I can do an ATC as an element. So yay or nay? The other girlies have been saying yay! 2.5x3.5 can be a cute card to embellie your page & still now take up a lot of room on the page. Muah!

I love the Surprise Swaps, but I wanted to make sure that everyone gets theme items that they will be able to use. And it's not an abundance of princess items - don't get me wrong, I love EVERY piece of princess items I have received with the surprise swaps, but I don't think I can meet enough princesses to use every item!!! :lmao: I was just trying to think of general enough themes that everyone would like - but still be surprised with what they get.

Look forward to you joining! ;)

I hope you will join us. I'm really excited about the season groups too. I go often enough to WDW that I could conceivable scrap according to the season, so any items related to those seasons would be great.

Looks good to me, but what do I know...I'm new to this. I'll join.

Great. I hope you join!

I hope everything works out with you. I, of course, would love for you to join - even if it's just for those couple of groups. I am going to try my best to keep the groups at just 4, so that the groups would remain small.

Thanks for the question, I guess I didn't actually state did I. :rotfl2: It's just one element - but some elements require two (like photomats) or four (shapes) - but with those items you can mix and match like 1 photomat and 1 journal box counts as one element, as opposed to making 2 photomats or two journal boxes.

I hope you join!

Yeah! Yes, I will count an ATC as an element, but it should be embellished at least 3 ways.

Look forward to you joining! :dance3:

I am so excited I would love to do this and can not wait for the sign up date. The section is amazing.

I would love to get more items for my scrapbook for our Disney December trip. I'd sign up for the Christmas/Winter at Disney for sure. But alot of the other groups look very tempting too.

I am definitely interested in this swap too. I like the themes with still the element of surprise.

I love the surprise swap and I really like how you have this set up. But, I'm not sure if I'll be signing up for this one or not. I'm trying to not sign up for as much so that I have time to work on pages for my books and not just swap stuff. But, I don't know if I have the willpower to stay away!!!:lmao:

Two surprise swaps ago, we had a holiday group, and the stuff I received was AMAZING. Everyone has so much fun creating Disney holiday pieces. I look forward to you joining the Christmas/Winter group... as well as a few more! :lmao: It's more fun when you receive lots back - plus I'm going to try to keep the groups to only 4. No arm-twisting here. :rolleyes1

I am definitely interested in this swap too. I like the themes with still the element of surprise.

Great! I hope it will still be as much as a surprise for everyone when they receive their stuff back! Look forward to you joining.

Come play with us... we have cookies!!! :rotfl2: Small groups/one element=more fun! Hopefully you will join a few of the groups. Look at the all the great themed stuff you could get back! :woohoo:

I'm being sucked in........

What are your dates?

Hee hee... (insert evil laughter here) that's as evil as I could find -> :stir:

While you were posting, I was updating the original post. I was thinking:

Sign-ups: April 13 at 11 AM EST, Due Date: June 27

Does that work for everyone? More or less time needed?

I'm being sucked in too :) Groups of four are good!

I just realized how many pictures I have not scrapped and I really should sit it out but I love this one and I skipped the last time. So I have to rush to work on books and get in the groove of doing both :lmao:
