Hi all,

I'm under 26 and in 2016 I was still insured under my mother. I just got married so this is my first year doing my own taxes. How do I go about getting the form I need to file taxes that proves I have health insurance? My mom says she hasn't gotten it yet- I assume hers will be mailed to her by her employer but is there a way for me to get my own copy, or will her employer send it to her and then she in turn can send it to me?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. Like I said, it's my first year taking care of all of this myself since I just got married so this is all new territory.

Thanks!

The form is for your records. The government doesn't actually keep the form.

If you are insured under your parents they were probably sent the form. You can also log in to your health insurance website and look for the form there or call them.

Awesome! Thank you so much!

Get the copy from your parents when the insurer issues hers. That's what I had to do at 26. You can't make the insurer issue your parents the doc any faster. Also, you know you had the insurance so I wouldn't delay tax filing because you don't have that form! As PP said it's for your records. The IRS isn't requiring it be sent to them, and Heaven help me this is NOT meant as a political comment, but this box may not be as important as previous years: https://www.google.com/amp/www.forb...fter-trump-executive-order/amp/?client=safari
