I got a new platinum card in the mail today and skimmed the "rules". Was surprised to see that their insurance does not cover any vehicle that is on a pick-up truck chassis..or a full sized van (not sure what constitutes a full size van), or exotic cars . (They give examples..nothing I would ever rent). I went and found my gold card "booklet", and dang if it didn't say the same thing. So becareful..Emerald Aisle sometimes has trucks on the lot.

Would this also include a SUV...like a Blazer, Explorer, Cherokee, etc?

Not sure about the SUV's, but...

If you have collision insurance on your own car you don't have to be too worried about the lack of coverage by your credit card company. Check with your insurance agent to be sure that rental cars are covered also.

Note that if you have collision on your own car (liability does it in a few states)usually the credit card insurance will pay only the deductible and your own insurance will kick in anyway. (The buzz word phrase is that your insurance is primary, paying whatever it can, and the credit card is secondary, paying what is left.) I think that only some Diners Club cards give primary car rental insurance.

mine covers the suv's. I called and asked. but my regualr vehicle insurance is for my car which is an suv and it covers me while on vacation and renting a vehicle.

I do have regular insurance (collison and lib)..but the cc covers a lot (like down time for the rental), that my regular doesn't cover. Plus the deduction, of course. Most SUV's are covered, unless they are on a truck chassis. Plus some people from big cities (such as NYC) don't have a car, so the CC is the only insurance. So, be sure you check, if you count on your cc insurance.
