As some of you are aware DS is a commetative swimmer I travel miles each year taking him to Gala's, and hundred on staying in hotels and food not to mention Diesel to get there. Food is a big issue as often the hotel breakfasts are served after we need to leave for the pool and it is difficult to know what to take, we have tried the cereal with the milk serving but he does not like the taste of the milk that comes with them, he does however like porridge but the only instant ones that I can find need to go into the microwave, a work collegue has just told me that in McD's they serve porridge that you just mix with boiling water (great for in a hotel room) but I have never seen this in the supermarkets does anyone know where I can buy it from. Thanks

Mcd's do Oatso Simple Porridge that you can buy from any supermarket but they do make it with milk not water and it's done in their microwave as I have it sometimes if i'm out early and have not had anything to eat.

Forgot to mention i'm sure when i've made up ready brek, it says on the box it can be made with water or milk but I could be wrong. Just had a look in the cupboard for you but we've not got none left.:confused3

I always make my instant porrige with hot (but not boiling - it goes lumpy if the water's too hot) water and then just add a 'nip' of milk on top :). I first discovered the sort that could be made with water in Publix in Florida, and I've just carried on doing the same at home - even though it's not quite the same here!

When DD was doing her Duke of Edinburgh award and camping out, they needed foods that would give them lots of energy but keep weight and bulk in their backpacks to a minimum (as they were already carrying all the tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, etc!). I used to make up a bag or two of a mix of instant porridge and dried milk powder for her so that she could add just hot water for an easy breakfast :thumbsup2

Thanks for your replies, I am off shopping tonight and will certainly try the instant porridge with powdered milk this weekend, we are of to Sheffield after school on Friday a good 31/2 hour drive from here so will want something easy early Saturday before we go to the pool.

Hope your DS did well this w/end! :thumbsup2

I saw this article and thought you might be interested :)

(If only I'd had that entrepreneurial foresight when I was mixing porridge and dried milk when I was helping DD with her D of E food supplies! )
