Hi...just wondering, since we have discussed what to give teachers at the end of the year, I have another question.

I am the Team mom for DD's T-ball team. I have asked each of the parents (minus the coaches) to contribute $10 each for a little something to give to the three coaches after the last game in two weeks. There are 13 kids on the team and three coaches, so I should collect $100. (13 kids minus the three coaches kids = 10 kids @ $10 each = $100)

Do I get each of the coaches a gift certificate?

If so to where?

If something else, do I get them all the same thing?

And, If I do do gift certificates, do I give the manager of the team a little more than the other two coaches??

Help. I need ideas. Thanks!

Something that has work for my kids' hockey & soccer coaches is to buy a "autograph frame". (Wal-Mart & Target have them) Its a picture frame with a wide mat that allows for a team photo and plenty of room for all the kids to sign their names/numbers. They have always gone over well.

Gift certificates for a movie theatre or a dinner (child free!) are also good ideas.

Kild was the coach of our son's ball team a couple years ago and they got him a little trophy that is in the shape of a ball glove. A base ball fits in the glove and all the kids signed it and if the kids can't sign for themselves you could just write their names on there. It was really neat.

I buy movie gift certificates. They really like them and the wives(who do a lot of behind the scenes work) do to.

It's really nice of you to do this. I'd go for gift certificates. If these coaches have families then I'd get a certificate to someplace the whole family could enjoy. Coaches give so much of their time and if they have children of their own then that's time they could be spending with their own kids. Give them something that would allow them a fun time with their families.

We've done both the autographed photo mat and the autographed baseball. There are also clear trophy-like ball holders with a marble base that are a bit cheaper than the bb glove style trophies. They come with an engraved plate. Have fun!!

When my husband coached hockey he often received gift certificates to popular restaurants near our home. They were always appreciated.

My husband also has all the mounted team photos of the eight years that he coached. Although I was taught to appreciate the thought behind any gift I have to tell you that I'm a little tired of dusting those pictures! ;)

We gave our T ball coach a gift certificate to a local sporting goods store. He and his 2 sons played a lot of sports so we figured that they could always use the gift certificates to buy sporting equipment or even something like a professional team jersey to wear.

That's a good idea. My dh coaches my son's baseball and basketball teams and usually he gets a ball signed by the kids and a trophy. But with our 2 sons both playing 3 sports they ALWAYS need new equipment of some kind of sporting goods store gift certificate would be useful. Of course as a wife I wouldn't turn down the movie gift certificates either! :teeth:

wow...you guys are nice :)
My DD coaches T-ball ...her second year, and she has never gotten anything :(

Thanks for all the ideas. There are some really good ones that I never would have thought of.

Now for my next question....

Going the route of the gift certificates....do I give the manager a little more than the other two coaches? Or do they all get the same amount? The manager of this team did spend time with the kids every week for practice and was at the games. (except for last week and this week. He's at Disney with his family :earsboy: I did ask him to take me along too, but here I am at home on the computer. :confused3 )

Thanks again, can't wait to read what else you cguys can come up with. :D

My Dh has coached for years and he often gets little gifts, although it is never expected and almost makes him a little embarrassed - he does it because he loves doing it.

He LOVES getting thank you cards or notes from the kids. He thinks those are the best.

I think that the amount of the gift certificates depends on the amount of time and effort the manager put in. If they spent a lot of time and were really great with the kids, I'd give him or her a little more. If their effort was the same as the 2 coaches, I'd give them all the same.

Meriweather, that's so great that your DD coaches! I know she's not in it for the gifts but it's always nice that people recognize the time and effort coaches put in on a volunteer basis! Sometimes, people just don't realize that gifts are given. Anyway, she will certainly get her rewards through the achievements and respect of the kids! You must be very proud of her!
