Inspired by the phone poll...

I got a good package deal with my phone, cable and internet all on one bill. I basically get the landline for free, so I figured I'll keep it for now. It's good for emergency purposes (it's much easier to track a 911 call to a landline than a cell phone).

We have both.

One of the advantages with having a land line is price. When we just had two cell phones (we now have my FIL on our plan), we were spending about $70-$80 per month and we would wind up going over our minutes. We have Vonage at home and it's $31 per month with unlimited minutes, call waiting, three way calling etc.

The other thing I like is that we don't have to be bothered at work on our cell phones with phone calls that are confirming appointments, friends calling, businesses, etc. With cell phones, you the owner, are paying for in-coming and out-going calls. With land lines, you are not paying for incoming calls. And you can have a phone in more than one room without having to pay an extra fee each month.

The good thing about having our cell phones is that if the power goes out, we can still use it and it definately comes in handy in an emergency or if we are running late to someplace.

But I would never just have a cell phone only in our house. Mine would always be on the charger downstairs and I wouldn't hear it ringing if I was upstairs.

I need a landline for:

satellite tv
internet (yes I'm probably the last person to still use dial up)
alarm system
DS so he can call me when he gets in from school

I don't know..:confused3 DW does talk on the phone alot so that might be why...here family calls to check on her every day

We have both. Work pays for our cell phones, so we try to use them for mainly work (though we do get some personal use).

because I find talking on a cell phone annoying.

Me too. Sometimes there's too much static, or it breaks up - which is a pain.

And for those automated phone systems - the buttons on the landline phone are much easier to push.:)

during the single mom days, I just had a cell...when I got re-married, dh had a landline and can't live w/o. He's retired and spends A LOT of time on the phone.

It would be more expensive to have just a cell phone.

I want the extra reliability of the land line, just in case.

Not everyone needs to have my cell phone number; I like the fact that some people can not always reach me.

I'm not the best at always remembering to charge my phone. Or to turn it back on after I have it on silent. Not to mention lots of talking drains the battery. DH has a cell phone for work and a VoIP; his company recognizes that a cell alone can't do the job and they don't provide landlines anymore.

Internet is hooked up through the phone line. So is satellite.

I hate my cells voice mail system.

The landline is better reception and easier to talk on for long periods of time.

911. Enough said.

Our family shares the landline, but cells are personalized and no way DS6's friends are getting my cell number & he isn't getting his own cell.

I think that's everything.
