Inspired by the Living Seas - Did anyone really "buy" the "hydrolators"?

One of Disney's most ridiculous concoctions IMHO. I'm wondering if anyone here either:

A) Truly believed they were descending into deep water.

B) At least thought it LOOKED realistic.

Anyone? And is there any other Disney attraction that just made you go hmmmmmmmmmm? :confused3 ;)

I once heard a rumor that a lady tried to sue Disney because the "descent" caused the pressure to change and therefore her ear drums burst....

Don't know if it's true, but I wouldn't put it past someone.

OMG! :rotfl:

I have been on them with other guests who did indeed buy into them.

My ex-dh will insist to this day that the hydrolators are real. I do still play it up for DD6. I wonder when she'll catch on.

I was fooled by the hydrolators! The first time I ever went into the hydrolators I thought we were at least going down into like a basement or something. But I didn't think we were going underwater. Now of course I realize you really go nowhere and simply exit out the back side of the hydrolator. Silly, but kinda cute.

I beleived it when I was 8. When I went back to Epcot when I was 22 I thought it seemed really fake though.

My 7 year old bought it. He really freaked out because he thought we were going underwater.

I probably should have worded the OP differently. Did any ADULT actually buy into it? ;)

I didn't buy it, buT I still liked them. I wouldn;t miss themn if they got rid of them, but I relly miss the sea cabs.

If we to start going down that path the hydrolaters would be at the end of a very long list. I felt they were a good part of a typical cheesy Disney theming story.

I was fooled. I have an elevator phobia as it is and I really thought we were going into a basement. Actually I thought there was going to be a moving ride when we got out. I found out on here that there is a doorway to go through to bypass the hydrolators.

Don't hold back cardaway - start layin' out the cheese. :teeth:

Well, I didn't really think we were under water, but I did think we were GOING somewhere. Last year they had the doors open on both sides and I was so disappointed that it was a walk-thru.

I have seen others that seemed to believe and kids who definitely believe. I go with the flow and "believe" to get the full effect of the ride.

That would be considered "bad show" is Disney speak. ;)

As a Hydrolator, it's lame, but as an elevator, it's pretty neat....:)

The first time I did think we were going into a basement. LOL I get irritated when on it I'll hear someone saying that it's just pretend. Why can't they keep their mouths shut? I can see if they were comforting a scared child, but that's not the case.

I agree. It drives me totally BATTY when someone has to reveal all the "secrets" at WDW. It ruins it for so many people, especially little ones. If I think it's lame, I keep it to myself. ;)
