we weren't going to find out. Then we got a call from my dr. that my tri-screen came back pretty low, so she recommended an amnio. Had an u/s set up for the next day anyway, so she said she'd meet me there and do the amnio if I wanted her to.
I did, and one of my sister's asked if I would find out the sex, since the amnio is 100% accurate, as opposed to the u/s. (I knew somebody whose u/s was wrong). She got the bug in my head and the next day I told my dr. we'd like to know. I had no predictions, but when they told me it was a boy (based on u/s, confirmed later with amnio) I couldn't register it...kepts waiting to hear them say "girl." LOL!
This all happened the morning of 9/11/01...as we were driving home we started calling people and dh's grandmother was watching the Today show...just as everything started happening. I'll never forget that day in more ways than one. I was supposed to rest and take it easy. Ha!
I agree that it is always a surprise...just depends on When you are surprised. Can't imagine it being any more emotional at birth.
