DIS Veteran Needs to learn how to ride a lawnmower

My mother use to adore my DH. She use to always side with him, how good a father he was to our son, what a great person, rave, rave, rave...
Well, that all change last year. My mother came out for a visit. My mother always wants things her way or no way, wants to be chauffeured around and taken site seeing (we live on the East Coast and she is in CA) excepts nothing less than to be catered. To try to make a long story short, her last visit we were no longer able to bend to her every whim. Our son was 6 months old and our priorities had changed. Our lifestyle change, we no longer could go out all day taking her all over New England. My immediate family was now my husband and son. I believe my mom had a very hard time with her new position. She did not want to visit to hang out with her grandson, she wanted to still do it all and we could no longer accommodate her. She got a serious attitude, said we were ignoring her and that she found both of us rude-she was the one visiting! She thought it to be a good idea to go head to head with my husband-mistake. She put me in a position to chose and I chose my husband and son. She got on her plane and left early. We didn't talk for 8 months and it may of gone for longer, but my brother was getting married and we went out for the wedding. Although my mother speaks to me on occasion and I know she adores my son, she never says anything regarding DH. I hope time will mend things.
There is so much more to this story, but my point is that I would give anything to have it where she adored my spouse. I hate to be in the middle. The irony is that my DH excepts my mother as she is and has no hard feelings and never talks harshly about her - that's why I adore him. Families are sometimes so complex.
