I got to thinking about HOA's and their rules after glancing through Poohnatic's thread about the subject. Then I got to wondering, if Disney ran a gated community and themed it after, well, Disney, would anyone buy into it? One of the rules would be that the whole community be Disney themed, in some way. It could be anything from houses designed after a house or castle :thumbsup2 from a Disney movies to having Disney mailboxes. I don't know, what do my fellow Dis'ers think? How far would you take the Disney theme in this community?

But of course, and I would take the Disney theme as far as the HOA allowed. :rolleyes1

Celebration, Florida. It's almost already been done.
I've heard of Celebration Florida, I just wasn't sure what they allowed for themeing. I guess this is more of a what-would-you-do type question.

Nope.

There's a line between influence and touches and a whole neighborhood being perceived as some sort of fantasyland.

I think it would get very old very quickly.

Have you BEEN to Celebration? It's the opposite of what CapeCodTenor is suggesting. Everything is very tasteful, well-designed. The LAST thing you would see would be a house in the shape of Cinderella's Castle.

Personally, I found it very Stepford Wives but they do have some very good design ideas. Not to my taste, but I can see it would appeal to many.

Celebration, FL was the first thing that came to my mind when I first read the question. However, Celebration isn't really "themed" so to speak.

And I agree with the above poster who said it was very Stepford Wives. Everything is so neat and tidy and well-kept. It is beautiful. However, the houses are way too close for my taste.

I like a little room between houses. But then, I am used to my neighborhood - all the lots are 1.25 acres. So, we have room to stretch out.

That all being said........if Disney had a gated community and I could afford to build the house I wanted, I would be there!

No thanks.

It's fun to escape to fantasyland but I wouldn't want to live there personally.

I agree, it seemed very stepford wives to me. No garbage cans allowed out in sight....etc. Very clean and quiet...etc. It's nice but not somewhere I'd want to live.

We are closing on a home in Celebration this June. Can't wait to move there. You won't see any disney theming as you drive through. I agree that it would get old quick to have a disney themed community. I love the norman rockwell feel to this town that disney built.

Welcome to Celebration. :sunny:

Hi Muffy!

You'd think I'd be used to the "Stepford Wives" comparison by now. A bunch of us Celebration Wives got together to drink margaritas and watch the movie - we had a good laugh that that's what people think of us!! It's couldn't be further from the truth.... and maybe someday we'll have our own movie...... ;)

Anywho - I like the idea of the theming. It could be just like the Storybook Canal in Disneyland - we'd have the castle, and Snow White's cottage, and Mr. Toad's house, and Jasmine's palace...... Each neighborhood within the development could have a different theme like Agrobah and all the houses there designed to fit that theme....

It sure would be different!!!
