Did you find a job before you relocated? How long did it take? What field of work are you in? I was informed yesterday that my chances are less than good. I thought it would be hard for someone in an executive position but I am just in customer services. I have been for 16 years with most of my experience in a call center. Im not looking for 40-50 thousand a year, mid 20's is fine. Ive talked with an employment agency and they didnt seem bothered by the fact that I was long distance searching, but who knows. Any ideas? Any success stories? Would love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly! BTW not limiting to just Orlando, I will go towards Jax and Tampa Bay also.
:worried:

I am subscribing to your thread because I would like to hear the answers too. DH has applied for several jobs in FL and never hears anything back. We are wondering what is up. someone mentioned to me that he should let them know when he would be in the area for an interview but we can hardly plan that many trips. (Though it would be nice if we could!!)

Julie, I agree. I am going to try to set up some when we are down in Oct. If nothing happens at that time, I wills start looking harder in Jan. I can take a couple of days off a at a time and get down there for interviews. I am hoping that even some would perform telephone interviews to weed me out since thats the field im in. My husband works in the manufacturing field so he will probably come down once I have something. I do have friends in the area so if worse comes to worse I can always ask them to use their address on my resume. This was mentioned on a relocation website I found.

I guess it depends upon your field.

DH had a job before we moved here 25 years ago, and as a nurse, I would had no problem finding employment then and wouldn't have any difficulty now.(if I chose)

My SIL moved to the Orlando area for her husband's job, and she was unemployed for a few years...she's a corporate lawyer. None of the companies were hiring, and she couldn't get anything else because she was "overqualified."

DD recently graduated, and she has had trouble finding an "ideal" position because she wants to stay in the Northeast, but many employers seem to be wary because she's from Florida.

I suspect Florida employers have had too much experience with people who love VISITING the state, but just can't get used to the heat, humidity, bugs, storms, etc on a long term basis, and quit after a few months. DH was in the military, so we had no choice about staying. It took me almost 3 years to get used to things...I was ready to leave after the first week!

That is what we have been thinking too.

I was lucky enough to have a job that I could do from anywhere as long as I could get to an airport. So it made no difference if I was in PA. or FL. It worked out great for me.
