(Inspired by honeywolf) Would you (or have you) dated people of another race?

I have dated everything you can imagine... It is never a non-issue, and relationships are rough enough without that issue. As in everything, it depends on the mindset and the maturity levels of all involved. Also, their commitment level and if there is any underlying agenda, which, unfortunately, there sometimes IS.

Carl, that was a quite a blanket statement. I've seen both sides of the coin. I think if the parents and the family raise a child as loved, none of the problems of the close minded society can affect them. I think the worse mix is an ignoramus and anyone else, but that kind of mixing happens everyday. Too bad we can't stop THAT kind of intermingling with our closemindedness..

Sorry about that Spago....I didn't realize your ancestors were all from the same place :)

For me personally I would never date outside my race, but that is just my preference. I do not look down on mixed race dating or marriage, I feel everyone has the right to chose who they date and who their soulmates are.

:bounce::wave::bounce:

I am Asian (Chinese descent, but I was born and raised in Midwest USA, so I am pretty American-ized), and DH is Caucasian (the typical Northern European mix -- Dutch-German on his dad's side, Scotch-Irish on his mom's).

Carl, our children are BEAUTIFUL, BRIGHT, LOVING, WELL ADJUSTED, SENSITIVE, AND CARING. Your generalizations are narrow-minded and dangerous. I feel very sorry for you.

Oooh. Don't even get me started on this subject... in answer to your question though...Yes I have. I was 17-19 at the time. My mother was not a bit happy about it, either. This is an area we have always STRONGLY disagreed on and always will I'm sure.

I've dated a Chinese guy, a Korean guy, a Puerto Rican guy, and a Filipino/Hawaiian guy.

I have no problems with mixed relationships at all. Love encompasses all colors :D

spago, I'm sorry.
My statement was a blanket statement as well and I should have thought more before I said it.

I have dated men of other races. My daughter dates men of other races. It simply is not an issue in our home.

BTW, I haven't dated since I was married 22 years ago. :D

laurie & becki - don't worry about it. i was just pointing out that there are people who are not racially mixed, so to speak. :D

ok... i'll put it this way.... My last g/f was 1/2 japanese, the g/f before that was vietnamese, and the g/f before that was taiwanese, and the girl I really like now is taiwanese (diffrent girl)..... so what does that tell you???

One thing to remember is back when people didn't see much of the world outside their own towns/cities/clans, dating outside of your town, city, or clan was probably looked at much the same way as some people look at interracial dating today. The world is constantly evolving.

I dated a sweet, beautiful black woman years ago. We actually had little trouble with our families, but we met with a host of resistance when out on the town. Boston is still a very racist city in spite of its reputation as the Athens of America. We encountered MORE disdain from the Black community......... which labeled her as "toooooooooo white"   .....

carl, i think swirls are beautiful, especially in people. Tyson Beckford, Keanu Reeves, Dean Cain, Mark Paul Gosselaar, Shannon Elizabeth, Jessica Alba, Frankie Muniz, Raquel Welch, Enrique Iglesias, Christy Turlington, Vin Diesel, Halle Berry and Kama's own Apolo Ohno are all of mixed descent. i don't see anyone complaining about them...
Three cheers for Spago!! ;)

This is a subject that really touches a nerve with me. I suppose it comes from hearing a mother's sad and narrow minded views my entire life. :( It deeply saddens me to see her continue to harbor so much bitterness and dislike for people of other races. I just don't understand it... THANK GOD!!!!!

I never really had the opportunity to (grew up in a small New England town). But my DD has. I don't have a problem with it at all. In fact here in the Virgin Islands, we don't even think twice about mixed couples. We have so many white/black couples, black/hispanic couples, hispanic/white couples, asian/white couples.....whew the combinations are endless :D :D :D It's very nice to not have that barrier to deal with.

I didn't even realize most of those celebrities Spago listed were mixed....thank you, Spago.

Swirls in ice cream cones are nice. Not in children. I think that in most cases interracial children face problems. So, to avoid that (unless one of you is sterile) the best thing is not to date people of other races.

See now...I could say "figures...he's from Texas" but...I won't.

I'll just think it. ;)

I'm Black American/Cherokee ect...:D My husband who is black has dated every color of the rainbow:) I on the other hand never had a desire to date out of my race. My dad "Hated" white people with a passion. I will be the first to say "YES SOME BLACK PEOPLE ARE VERY RACIST" . My kids have many friends of different ethnicity. Would I be unhappy if they dated someone out of their race. Yes I would, but If they are happy then I am happy for them.
