Hi all.
Remember that thread recently about spending so much at the grocery store?? Well, it was because of that thread that I found out about "the Grocery Game". Thank you to whoever it was that listed it.
She doesn't list my area on her site, so I had to pay the $9.95 to download the book to try and do it myself. It will be a lot of work, but I want to at least give it a try.
Anyhoo...........she lists in the book a tip about getting your meat at a discounted price. This is when, say, they have tomorrows date on a package of meat. They need to sell it fast, so they discount the price by a certain percentage. Am I explaining this easily?? Hope so.
Edited to add: this is perfectly good meat. It just has to be sold by the next day. I either freeze it or use it the same day I bought it.
They usually do this in the morning. My one store discounts meat about 7-7:30 am. My other store does it around 8:00am but also through out the day. ( I wish it would do it all at one time
)
I have done this a few times now and here is what I got:
90% lean hamburger..........$1.99lb
boneless, skinless chicken breasts....$1.99lb
stew meat...........$1.92lb
beef chuck roast.....$2.12lb
Sometimes meat sales beat these prices but I think I did pretty well. Most of them were "big packs" so I was able to really stock up.
I think this was a pretty good tip. What do you guys think??
