We have two dogs, basset/lab mix. They are brother & sister. When we are letting them inside from the backyard Ginger comes right away when we call. Barney sits there and looks at us. We have to shut the door, wait about 5 seconds, open the door and he's there to come in. We could call till we're blue in the face and he won't come till we shut the door and open it again! He's weird but we love him!

I don't have an answer to that one. But I'm LOL:D

I don't know, my 2 jack russells are like that! One is very dilligent and comes right to the door, but the other one has to wait until we shut the door for the 1st one! Who knows!!!!!!

I have no idea why your dog does that, how very interesting. Perhaps he/she thinks they are a cat and are just putting you in your place?

One of mine does the same thing. He just stares at me, but if I close the door he comes running. LOL My other dog comes running when I click my nails on the glass.

LOL, I don't have a clue. :) My dog will come when I call most of the time. Although when the wind is blowing she gets distracted by the scents. Occasionally I have to go outside and tell her to get her butt in the house and she'll obey but look at me like she's laughing at me.

Our dog does the same thing. She drives me nuts. The only way she comes running is if there is a promise of food, other than that, she waits until we close the door.

That's so funny that so many dogs are doing this same thing! I thought Barney was just "different"! It must be in the doggie rule book somewhere!

I'm tickled to have inspired a thread! :D But guess what? My dopey dog does the exact same thing. She goes out the back sliding door. When she wants to come in, she "knocks" on the glass. We open the door and she sits there and stares at us. I close it for a few seconds, open it and she comes in. She also does this before going out. I think she thinks it's a game. I think it drives me crazy. Especially in the middle of the night.

Definately a control thing..... "who does she think she is? Yelling to me like that. I'll go in when I'm darn good and ready." (((sound of door shutting))) "Okay- now I'm ready."

Dogs.... gotta love em!

I don't know. Maybe I'll ask my Springer Spaniel who runs around my yard looking up barking at airplanes until he runs into the fence, which is bound to happen because he is not watching where he is going!

A couple of our doxies do the same thing. With the standard I just look at her and tell her don't make me count to ten. She then comes running her tail just a wagging and grinning from ear to ear.
