<Inspired By Gonga> Why do NON-SMOKERS sit in the designated smoking areas?

I've really enjoyed this thread! Well, most of the posts anyway. The very few nasty posts, well, maybe those folks just had bad childhoods I don't know. I guess being them is punishment enough.

But for the vast majority of posters... I'm very glad to see there are still such rational and kind people in this world. Pat_Elliott & AirForceRocks - I don't smoke but I'd gladly buy you both a beer! DW and I will be at the World this Oct 21-31. Plenty of libations to choose from over in Epcot!

Cheers!

Darian

Actually, I don't smoke anymore - I quit last November...but I'll still take the beer!!! LOL!!

I'm with AirForceRocks (congrats on quitting, it's not like we all dont' want to). I'll always take the beer! And I'll even stay smoke free while we drink it. We can invite Wish Upon A Star, who can make thick-headed Italian comments, I'll make the fast-tempered Irish comments, and we'll all drink Darian's beer!

I'm liking this post more and more as the day progresses. Now I just have to get to Orlando in October when Darian is there. Alas, my daughter will be about three weeks old. But I WILL take a rain check.

And I agree Darian. Isn't Epcot sort of a hop-driven candy store? Ah, I'm back in the Disney mood.

Best to all!

Pat

This thread is especially poingnant to me.

Yes, I'm really sensitive to smoke. Even if I wasn't, I can't stand the smell on someone else. But you know the smoking area is the smoking area, and I won't give anyone an evil eye for following the rules.

HOWEVER, next time I'm in Disney, smokers please forgive me if I shed a tear as I look at you. Two weeks ago, our trip was cut too short, as my brother-in-law died of laryngeal cancer while we were there. He smoked a pack a day and quit 25 years before the cancer grew to the point that it was found. He was only 52. He did not die a slow, sad cancer death. The tumor caused a major trauma, and my sister will never recover from watching her best friend and love of her life die like that. After nursing him through three years of ups and incredibly bad downs.

Please, please, try your hardest to quit. Maybe not for you, but for your loved ones. My bil's saddest thoughts were of what my sister and their two sons had to endure. And hers were of the pain he went through for the last three years.

Sorry, it's still so fresh.

I used to smoke years ago... and grew up in a home where mom & dad smoked like chimneys. I still enjoy the aroma of a fine cigar or that first puff on a freshly lit cig. Though personally indulging is a thing long in the past. With angina, its a foolish combination.

DW and I accidently sat in a new smoking area once over at Disneyland... didn't mind the smell (could you blow some on me please...) but the smoke doesn't like me... the olde demon claw reaches into my chest, squeezes my heart and shows me a glimpse of eternity. I'm certainly not going to get nasty with smokers for smoking in their area. I understand people actually do that, but its hard to believe. As my daddy used to tell me "Son, never underestimate the power of stupidity."

I've gotta say I just loved AFR's comeback! And Pat's line will live in my memory - "I see a lot of random acts of rudeness in the park." Yeah baby, thats what I'm talkin' about.

Yeah, I'll gladly get the first round but Wish is gettin' the snacks. Hey, I've been to the "drinking around the world" thread. Committing to buying ALL the beer is some serious money with this crowd!!! ;)

Wow I feel so popular! :teeth: I've never had such a good thread going . . .<patting herself on back>

Snacks Darian? hmmmmmmmmmm . . .how bout some bean dip or artichoke dip . . .OR, if you wait a couple of weeks I will be receiving my order from a Tastefully Simple demonstration . . .got some horseradish dip, garlic/garlic, bacon . . .those will go great with the beer . . and for dessert . . .Carribbean Beach Pineapple Cake . . :bounce:

Really though, this is a good thread . . .only a few nasty things said . . .nice to read everyone's comments and thoughts (give or take a few)

Pat-Elliot - thanks for making me laugh! Always good to do at the end of a stinky day! (smoke smell not intended)

:D

I've been meaning to add my 2 cents and I agree with Pat about the jerks and the smoking. Also, the poster who commented about what it was like when everyone smoked and now the non-smokers have the so called "upper hand".
I have just recently quit (about 4 months) and I so enjoy being around the smoke. My allergies hate it but I like it. But, I have many times since Disney went to designated smoking areas, but enjoying my cigarette and had the jerk get upset about it. I usually explain, I'm where I should be and if they continue to fuss I would blow my smoke their way. (Yes, it was my way of getting back at them so I guess this could be one of my I promise never to do that again posts). Otherwise I always tried to be considerate. And to the others who complain about the smell, I agree it's the pits but please, to those who would rather use a bottle and half of perfume, I am extremely allergic to perfume and can have an instant asthma attack induced by the perfume.
Anyway, as the smoking seems to be not my problem anymore (somedays I miss it), I will be the person moving closer just for a whiff and running away from the perfume stinkers.
